yesterday.” He tried moving past her to the door but she shifted, bracing herself to prevent him from leaving.
"Stop it! Okay. I love you. I don't want to but I do!"
His features softened. “Why don't you want to love me?"
"Because I'm not like them,” she said, referring to his past girlfriends. “I'm not a shopaholic who loves nothing more than getting her nails done at the salon every Tuesday. I'm not primped and plucked to perfection. I hate wearing skirts and would rather be in baggy jeans with two holes in the knees than a formal gown looking like a princess at a ball. I prefer flip-flops to heels no matter how each make my butt look. And I prefer the quietness of home as opposed to parties out on the town. I'm wearing underwear with turtles on them, for crying out loud.” Grace stared into his eyes, gnawing on her bottom lip. “I'm nothing like them, Chase."
He crossed his arms over his chest. “No, you aren't anything like them. You're smart and respectful though you have a mile long stubborn streak. You're determined and helpful, caring and resourceful—even when I don't deserve it. Gracie, you're beautiful both inside and out.” He pressed his lips together. “So, no, you aren't like them and I don't want you to be, Grace."
Chase saw relief flood Grace's face. Did she really think she had to live up to his past flames to please him? He pulled her to him, wrapping his arms around her body. Somehow he knew this was where she belonged. Even with all their fighting. Grace still felt perfect in Chase's arms.
"I love you, Gracie. I want you in my life.” He kissed the top of her head before lifting her chin upwards. She smiled at him and puckered her lips, to which he happily gave her a kiss.
"So what now?” she asked, sliding her hands underneath his shirt and into the waistband of his jeans.
"Come on.” Chase grinned. “There's something I want you to show me."
He slid his arms away, pulling her down the hall with him while Grace mumbled, “The last time a guy said that to me I lost my virginity."
Chase couldn't help laughing when they reached her bedroom. He pulled Grace to him and kissed her like a starving man at his first meal. Somehow in a tangle of limbs they made it to Grace's bed, the mattress squeaking as they plopped down. Grace laughed, running her hands over Chase's back, finally pushing his shirt over his head.
"You're really hot in jeans, you know that?” She trailed kisses along his neck inhaling the delicious scent of him. “Even while I was pissed at you, I couldn't stop staring at your ass."
He chuckled, kissing her cheek and nose before finally finding her mouth. “You're really hot in nothing."
With each other's help, they undressed, Chase in nothing and Grace in her green and white turtle panties. In the back of his mind, Chase knew five elderly women stood outside the apartment, knowing full and well what was going on inside this room. But he didn't care.
Grace lay like an offering to him, so beautiful and sexy, she took his breath away. And just as he suspected, the turtle underwear turned him on even more. He laughed, bending to kiss her, never getting enough of her.
"What's so funny?” she asked grinning up at him.
"You are wearing turtle underwear.” He trailed kisses between her breasts, cleverly avoiding the rosy peaks as he headed toward her navel. “And you look so damn hot—even if ‘lazy Sunday’ is written underneath the smiling turtle."
His mouth came to the soft white cotton and he planted a few more kisses along the waistband. “You're beautiful, Gracie. Just the way you are."
He hooked his fingers in the sides and pulled the panties down and off her body, throwing them somewhere in the room. She spread her legs, making room for him but he wanted to take his time. Their past romps in the sack had been quick—though satisfying. This time he wanted to make it last.
He trailed his hands up her thighs, feeling the silky softness of her skin.
