before. She’d always been ferociously independent and guarded her heart with a rock solid resolve to never let a man hurt her like her father had hurt her mother.
Would he be like that? Chasing after other women? Hitting her when she dared to question him? She wouldn’t stay if that was what he was going to do. She wouldn’t let him stomp all over her heart. Of course, that was if she ever fell in love with him, and she was so angry with him she doubted that would happen any time soon.
They were halfway to her quarters when her mate, who had followed close behind her like a living breathing shadow, asked, “What is your name, little human?”
“Tina Graham,” she answered without hesitation.
A slow rumble vibrated the air around her, causing a riot of sensation and another throb deep inside. Her body wept for him from just having him so close to her.
“I greet you, Tina Graham. I am Sorvar, Third Prince of Morgath.”
Tina stumbled, and large hands wrapped around her upper arms to steady her.
“Prince?” she squeaked. Oh god! That explained the guards she’d seen behind him and the arrogant commanding attitude.
A low chuckle warmed her skin, his breath blowing across her neck sending a shiver down her spine. “Yes, but you don’t have to worry. With two older brothers, it is most unlikely that I will ever become king.”
For heaven’s sake, she was going to be a princess. A soft nuzzle against the side of her neck sent butterflies rioting in her stomach. A soft gasp left her as a hot wet tongue licked up her neck. Oh man, that didn’t feel disgusting at all. Not like when he’d licked her before her change. Tina whimpered, a sound she had never made in her life, and heat spread across her cheeks.
“Hmm, I like that sound.” A rustle of his wings as he shifted them told her of his excitement.
She’d learned from the pod that part of a Morgath’s training was learning to hold his wings steady at all times. Small involuntary movements showed weakness, so for him to move them indicated he was under a lot of stress.
“Come, Tina. We are running out of time,” her mate said.
She gave a brisk nod, and they were under way again.
It took another ten minutes to reach her quarters. Sorvar filled her small room with his large frame. Tina was thankful the guards waited outside in the corridor. She stepped around Sorvar as he sat straddling the small chair he’d dragged in from her small kitchenette, packing her possessions into two sturdy duffle bags. By the time she was ready, they had fifteen minutes left.
“I’m ready,” she told Sorvar as she turned to him with a bag in each hand.
He walked towards her, his heated gaze taking her in head to toe. What was he seeing when he looked at her? She wasn’t looking her best, that was for sure. She was still wearing her uniform suit, which wasn’t flattering in the least, and the medium grey did nothing for her pale skin. He took one bag in his hand and her now empty hand in his much larger one. The smooth skin of his palm was deliciously warm against her hand, his fingers long, lean, and strong as they wrapped around hers.
“Come, Princess, it is time we leave.”
So much more intent than what he said filled his words. Tina had no doubt that as soon as they were free of the station, he would be claiming her, and she was strangely conflicted about it. Need wracked her body even though she was bordering on furious with him. Allowing him to seal his claim didn’t mean she was about to let him walk all over her, but she wouldn’t fight him on this. She’d show him soon enough what kind of woman he’d picked as his mate. In fact, she was looking forward to it.
They made it to his ship with minutes to spare. Sorvar dragged her through the ship, past the hulking unmated forms of his crew mates and to what she assumed was his quarters. It was a good thing Tina had seen what an unmated Morgathian male looked like, or she might have screamed at her
