she saw the look on my face and said firmly, âYou go, Abbie. Iâll be fine.â
âThanks, Kim,â said Dad.
Mum didnât say anything back, but she nodded slightly.
After weâd all said goodbye to Dad and hung up, we talked about what to create for the London shops. Saff started talking about a citrus theme, and Grace wondered whether we could showcase different essential oils. I was just staring down at the little rainbows painted onto my nails and listening to them argue about which was better when I realized that we already had a signature theme â I mean, we were called Rainbow Beauty, after all!
âRainbows, of course!â I cried. âWe can have one product for each colour, and put them in gift kits in rainbow order as well as selling them individually. Iâm sure we can find something for each, even if we have to fiddle around with the colourings a bit to get them perfect.â
âFab idea!â said Saff. âMuch better than essential oils .â
âMuch better than citrus ,â Grace snapped back.
We all started throwing ideas around while Grace frantically scribbled down notes. In the end, we settled on Spicy Delight Bubble Bath for red. It was already pinkish, but we were planning to experiment with alkanet, a natural colouring, to make it really bright and cheerful.
For orange we went for our Carrot and Calendula Hand Balm, which always flew off the shelves at Rainbow Beauty. âItâs for gardeners â is that a bit specific?â Mum asked, with a frown.
âWe could change the description and take the gardening bit out and just say itâs good for dry, chapped skin,â I suggested. âAnd weâll have to add turmeric and paprika to make it really orange.â
âGreat,â said Grace, scribbling it all down.
âYellowâs easy,â said Saff. âOur Zesty Zing Shower Gel.â She obviously wasnât going to let go of the citrus theme. But actually I agreed with her. It was one of our most popular products already thanks to its huge burst of lemon, mandarin and grapefruit â perfect for getting even the biggest sleepyhead going in the morning.
For green we settled on the Olive Grain Foot Scrub, and decided to experiment with blue camomile and turmeric to make it even more vibrant than it already was. And blue camomile would also turn our lovely blue Chest-Clearing Massage Oil Blend (made with eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, tea tree, rosemary and thyme oils) the perfect colour.
âRight. Indigo next,â said Mum.
âWhat is indigo, anyway?â asked Saff, wrinkling up her nose. âIâve always wondered that.â
As Grace tutted and rolled her eyes, I went over to the chiller counter and came back with a punnet of blueberries. âThese, look,â I said.
Saff peered at them. âOh, right. I thought they were just blue , you know, being called blue berries.â
âI guess indigo is a kind of purply-blue,â I said.
âWe donât have anything that colour,â said Mum. âWell, nothing that would work, anyway. We canât sell our Blueberry Burst Fresh Face Mask to the London shops because it needs to be refrigerated.â
I frowned. âYouâre right. Maybe we could make something else up, though. Blueberry oil is great for dry skin, and we havenât got a body butter in the London range at the moment. Obviously we canât transport fresh blueberries, so weâd have to use fragrance oil to get the yummy smell. Iâm sure we could experiment with our natural colourings to get a good indigo colour, though.â
âThat sounds gorgeous,â said Saff, âand we can use shea butter to make it really indulgent.â
We all agreed on the body butter and then moved on to violet. That was easy â Lavender Bath Bombs with real lavender flowers. Theyâd always been a good seller for us and the flowers made them
