Things That Go Hump In The Night
bedroom and saw me sitting in a chair, one of my bent legs bobbing up and down from being keyed up. He walked over to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water and sat down on the couch.
“You’re struggling over Meredith,” he said, surprising me. Derek never brought up difficult topics. He was a live and let live kind of guy.
“I guess,” I admitted, so keyed up now that I stood and started to pace the small room.
“Your wolf wants to come out and mate with her,” he stated, and I was so stunned that I sat back down again with a thud.
“What? How do you know that?”
“Because I’ve felt it before myself,” he replied, taking a long drink of his water.
“You have? When? With who?” I was babbling, but it was a lot to take in. Derek never spoke about seeing anyone, although I’m sure he did. And to hear that he had experienced this desire to “mate” was a relief, honestly.
“Her name was Cindy. I met her about six months after we turned. She and I dated for a while and I just couldn’t get her out of my mind. I wanted her more than I’ve ever wanted another woman, and my wolf wanted her, too. Then she died.” My heart dropped. Derek was one of the best men I’ve ever known and I hated that he hadn’t said anything.
    “Why didn’t you tell us?”
“Nothing to tell. If she had lived, you guys would have met her. But she didn’t,” he said as if it was that simple. But I knew it wasn’t, because his hand shook a little as he took another drink.
“What are you going to do about Meredith?” he asked me, and I knew he was changing the subject on purpose.
“I don’t know. I want her, man. I want her more than I’ve ever wanted another woman in my life,” I said.
“My wolf wants her, too,” I continued softly, looking down at the floor. “I almost shifted earlier today; I almost lost control because of her. I can’t let that happen.”
“If you mate with her, it won’t,” Derek said, looking at me closely.
“How do you know? I didn’t even know this mating thing existed until today.”
“Because I mated with Cindy,” Derek said softly and I sat back in my chair, stunned again.
“I’m so sorry, Derek,” I said, not knowing what else to say.
“It’s okay. The important thing is that mating with a woman gives you control over the wolf again. The wolf is satisfied and you’re satisfied as a man.”
    “I don’t know…Meredith is…”
“Beautiful, sexy, amazing?” Derek said with a sly smile and I laughed softly.
“Yeah, she is.” Just then we heard Meredith scream in her sleep again and I automatically stood up and started to go to her. I stopped suddenly, unsure, and looked back at Derek.
“Go, Trevor,” he said and I knew he was right.

    ***

I walked quickly into the bedroom and saw that Meredith had kicked off the blanket and was thrashing around again, like last night. I climbed up on the bed and stretched out beside her, gathering her body up against mine tightly.
“Shh, Meredith. It’s me, Trevor,” I whispered in her ear and she immediately stopped thrashing. I felt her heart beating hard against my chest and then her eyes opened against my face like hummingbird wings.
“Trevor?” Her voice was rough with sleep and my body thrummed from feeling her pressed up against me, practically naked with just the t-shirt and panties on.
“Yes, it’s me,” I whispered back, rubbing my hands up and down her back, her skin silky soft where the t-shirt had ridden up. My cock pressed against her stomach and I decided not to worry about it; I couldn’t stop my reaction to her.
She pushed her body harder against mine and moaned deep in her throat, and my wolf was there again, battling with the man inside of me. I rolled her over onto her back so I was lying almost completely on top of her, careful to avoid her burns.
“Meredith,” I said softly, looking directly into her eyes from an inch away. One of my hands was on her back and one was under
