weekday.
The first floor had ladies shoes, cosmetics, handbags, hosiery, and men’s clothing. He wandered around and was approached by many sales people offering assistance. Kate was nowhere to be found. He continued his search on the second floor, which was wall-to-wall ladies clothing. Again, he didn’t spot Kate. The third floor was a bust as well. He decided to take a break in the café and call the store to ask for Kate. The operator told him that no one by the name of Kate Simmons worked there.
He had struck out ; anger welling up inside him, from wasting an entire day and getting nowhere. It was almost four o’clock in the afternoon and he had plans to see Rose tonight after she got off work. Rose will be getting it rough tonight . That’s what I would be doing to my Kate, as that’s what she would deserve for causing my fury. He would have to spend tomorrow at SDSU searching. On Friday, he would check the Nordstrom stores at UTC and North County Fair.
Now that he had a plan, he decided to go home and do some paperwork for his company. He had hired a guy to do window tinting for him so he would have more free time for his extra-curricular activities. Alan had worked for him while he was in Germany visiting Jacob. Everything had gone smoothly and he was going to keep Alan on to do the manual labor while he lined up the jobs. Alan was exactly what he needed so he will be able to lavish all the attention on Kate that she deserves. He had jobs booked for the next two weeks so he could spend his time looking for Kate. He had a gut feeling that it wouldn’t be long before he found her and she was sharing his bed. Soon, my love. We’ll be together soon.

Chapter 4

Kate walked in the door just in time to answer the phone before the answering machine picked up. She figured it was her aunt calling to tell her about funeral arrangements. She hit the talk button and answered.
    “Hello?”
    “Hi , Kate. It’s me.”
“How are you holding up , Aunt Donna?”
“It’s been tough, but I ’ve made the arrangements for your father’s funeral.”
    “So, when is it ?”
“The funeral is going to be a week from Friday. Since your dad wasn’t found for many days, his body requires a special coffin. It’s going to take extra time for them to prepare hi s body and get him up here.”
The thought of that gave Kate the chills. “I see. Well, I’ll have mom book a flight for Eric and me. I’ll let you know when we are coming in.”
“Okay, good. We have worked it out for you to stay with John and Cathy. They have two extra beds since the girls have moved out on their own. They’re really looking forward to seeing you.”
“I know. It’s been way too long.”
“Well , that’s how life goes sometimes. How long do you think you will be able to stay?”
“Unfortunately, I need to miss as little work and school as possible. I’m thinking that I will fly in next Wednesday and return home on Sunday. That way I’ll only miss a few days of classes.”
“Sounds good. Just let me know as soon as you have your itinerary.”
“I’ll call you as soon as I have my flight scheduled.”
    “Great. Talk to you then.”
    “Okay, bye Aunt Donna.”
After she hung up, Kate sat on the bar stool and put her elbows on the granite counter. She held her head in her hands. Such unfortunate circumstances for a family visit. It had been more than ten years since she saw anyone from her dad’s side of the family, with the exception of her aunt.
She called her mom to tell her the dates that she would need to travel. Her mom would book her flight in the morning. She planned it so that she could attend her morning classes before flying out.
As she was hanging up, Neil walked in the door. He looked so good in his charcoal gray suit that she wanted to eat him up. It really brought out the gray tones in those stunning hazel eyes of his. He greeted her with a kiss and an embrace. They held each other for a moment.
