she’d sneak off later. Luxar showed her to her room—extravagant, of course—and . . .
Harmony paused, reading her dashed-off plot points to see what should happen next. She was mulling over ideas when knocks sounded on her door. She glanced at the clock. Five p.m. Kid time!

Chapter 5
H armony saved her work and stood to greet the kids. She’d gotten six more pages done. Only three short. They ran to her, excited.
â€œReady?” Aiden handed her the book— Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets .
Harmony frowned. “This is book two. I’ve never read the first one. I won’t know what’s going on.”
â€œMom thought of that.” He handed her a DVD. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone . “She bought us the movie to watch. She said we could watch half today and finish it tomorrow before we start reading the book.”
â€œYour mom’s brilliant. She thinks of everything.” With Aiden’s light brown hair, light brown eyes, and a spattering of freckles across his nose, he reminded her of one of the kids on the cover. That boy had red hair, but the same sweet, sort of innocent look. Bailey was almost an exact replica of her mom—a little Goth princess.
Harmony popped the movie into the machine, closed the window blinds, and got comfortable in one of the easy chairs in the corner. Aiden hopped on the unmade bed and sprawled on his stomach. Bailey climbed onto Harmony’s lap.
It was a good thing that Harmony kept the remote close by, because Aiden kept interrupting the movie. “Did you see that?” he demanded. “How Dumbledore took the lights from the lamps and put them back?”
    â€œPretty cool,” Harmony admitted.
A little later, he pushed himself onto his knees and cried, “See all of those owls, trying to deliver letters? Guess what happens!”
â€œA dragon flies over and eats them all?”
Aiden stared. “Dragons don’t eat owls.”
Harmony shrugged. “I must have forgotten that.”
Aiden jumped to his feet when Hagrid knocked down the door to bring Harry a birthday cake. He couldn’t sit still. A few scenes later, he called, “Hey, stop the movie there! Did you hear what kind of wand Harry got? One with a phoenix feather. Do you know what a phoenix is?”
â€œOf course, I do! I’m a fan of Greek myths.” Harmony gave him a dirty look. “Give me a little credit.”
He was too busy with his next thought. “Later, when you meet Hermione, her wand’s core is dragon’s heartstring, just like Viktor Krum’s. You’ll meet him later, too, and Draco Malfoy’s has a unicorn hair.”
â€œWonderful, but if you don’t stop talking, we’re never going to finish the movie, not even the first half of it.”
â€œOkay, I’ll shut up. I want you to get to the part with Harry’s familiar.”
Harmony pushed the play button and Hagrid gave Harry the beautiful, white owl. “Wouldn’t it be neat to have a familiar?” Aiden interrupted again. “If you could have anything, anything at all, for a familiar, what would it be?”
She paused the movie again. “A werewolf.”
â€œYou can’t have a werewolf!” Aiden told her. “Werewolves are too big.”
â€œYou said I could have anything.”
    â€œAnything that’s smaller,” he amended.
Bailey bounced on Harmony’s knee. “I want a canary!”
Aiden let out a loud sigh. “How could a canary help you if you’re in trouble?”
â€œIt can sing me to sleep at naptime.”
â€œNot that kind of trouble! If something attacks you.”
Harmony shook her head. “I’m keeping my werewolf.”
â€œYou can’t keep a werewolf.” Aiden sat up on the bed, prepared to argue, when he looked up and saw Brody. Brody was standing in the doorway, watching them, with an odd expression on his
