had started to slow. But lately…well, she was nine months pregnant. Opal turned to look at her before she spoke.
“ I hate him. Not to say the sex isn’t wonderful, but I don’t like him at all. And he feels the same about me. He only did this to save me from being claimed by the other killer.” The wording of her last statement had Sapphire still in her next question. Then Opal continued. “He’s a blood sucker, and he’s made me one.”
“ As I’ve said to you before, you were dying. There was no choice; unless, of course, you wish you would have died that day. Missed the birth of your nephew, or even worse, left us all hurting because you were gone. What’s really wrong, Opal? You’re not pissed because you’re alive, are you? Because if you try to tell me that, I’m not going to believe you. Sloan may or may not want you as a mate, but we both know that you’ve claimed him as well as he has you. Is it the fact that your life has changed so much? Or do you just enjoying being a martyr? Because from where I’m standing, you look like a spoiled child having a temper-tantrum.”
Opal turned on her so quickly she couldn’t get away, and as she held her above the ground by her neck, Sapphire didn’t struggle. After a few seconds, she saw the look in her sister’s eyes…realization of what she was doing: horror, and worst of all, fear. Sapphire was let down gently, and then Opal ran from her. It was all Sapphire could do in her huge state to keep up with her. When she caught her, Sapphire pulled her into a chair in the food court. If she was honest with herself, she’d been just a little afraid herself.
“ You should get away from me, get as far from me as you possibly can. I’m a monster. And I hurt you. How can you even want to be around me? How can you…what if I hurt the baby? I’m the worst kind of animal, and I hate me.” Sapphire was hurting, but not from what Opal had done to her. Before she could tell her that, Opal started crying, a great sobbing cry that had Sapphire reaching for their grandmother. She was at a loss as to what to do. She told her everything.
I ’m coming there now. I had a feeling something was off, and have been milling around this…I have no idea what this store is selling. Sex is all I can think of. What on earth would make a woman go in here and purchase such things? Sapphire asked her the name, and she laughed when her grandmother told her the name of Sapphire and her sisters’ favorite store. If you tell me you shop here, I shall never speak to you again.
All right, then I won ’t tell you I have a charge card there, and that Blair buys me things there just so he can tear them off me. Her grandmother sputtered, and Sapphire told her that Opal was hurting, and badly. I don’t know how to help her. And I’m pretty sure she’s afraid of Sloan, or at least the life he’s given her. What am I going to do to help her?
The only thing you can do, love. Love her. But as for Sloan? He won’t harm her. I think he’s mostly afraid of you in the event that would happen. But he won’t harm her. She could see her grandmother coming toward her, and she had a little pink bag over her arm. Sapphire started laughing. “I had to purchase something after simply standing there for so long. But I swear to you, if you tell anyone that I even went into that place, I’ll ground you for a month.”
“ Grandmother?” Opal stared at her, and Sapphire shrugged when Opal looked at her. “You called her when I hurt you?”
“ As I have been trying to tell you, you didn’t hurt me. I’m a grown woman about to give birth to this child. I can take on a temper tantrum of a newborn vampire.” Sapphire smiled gently at her sister. That’s when she saw Sloan coming toward them. “But I’m reasonably sure that your mate thinks I hurt you. Here he comes now. Try not to scream at him when he gets here. I’m pretty sure we’d get thrown from this place, and I happen to love the
