“I know, but I want more time with him. Plus look how my last relationship turned out. I just want to have fun while I can, and make as many memories as I can with him.”
Laura took her hands in hers. “Sweetie , you deserve to be happy forever, not just for a short time.”
S he knew that, but Stefan had already said he wasn’t the forever kind of guy, and she didn’t want to pressure him into anything. “I know and maybe someday I will find the one I will spend my life with. But right now I want Stefan and I am taking what I can get.”
Laura squeezed her hands around Gretchen’s and nodded. “Fine, but I will be here when you need me.”
Gretchen smil ed warmly at her dearest friend. She knew that no matter what happened in her life, she would always have Laura by her side. “I am so happy you don’t hate me, I know I wasn’t the best friend you needed when I was with Rob. But now I promise you, I will make it up to you.” She reached for her cold Coke, and Laura turned to her.
“Well if Claus has any cop friends he wants to introduce me to, I wouldn’t mind.” She winked.
Gre tchen laughed and shook her head. “I’ll ask for you.”
The rest of the night was uneventful, but her mind kept wandering to Stefan and what he was doing. She was the one who wanted to be just friends, but she was scared he would leave her again. Now that she’d found him again, she didn’t want to lose him. She said good night to Laura at about elven-thirty, and walked to her car. She had left her phone in her car because she wanted to give her friend one-hundred percent of her attention and her fingers trembled in hope that a certain officer had left a message.
There was one, and it was from her soon to be ex. We need to talk without lawyers please meet me. She chose to ignore him and call the man that was on her mind.
Gretchen felt her chest ache and not from Robert , but from not hearing from Stefan. She would have thought he would have called her or texted her by now. Then she thought about him putting himself in danger. He was, after all, a police officer and that frightened her. She pulled up her contacts and scrolled down to the S’s to find Stefan’s number. She needed to know he was okay. She pressed on his name and brought her phone to her ear.
It rang only twice before she heard a deep voice, “Gretchen?” The way he said her name caused her heart to race.
“Hey…umm…how are you?” S he had never been at a loss for words before. She usually always had herself together. But he made her feel like a school girl, maybe it was because she had only been with Robert before him.
Stefan ’s warm chuckle filled her ear, and made a shiver run down her body settling at her pussy, causing her to cross her legs to relieve some of the pressure. “I’m sitting at home. Where are you?”
She could imagine him arching his dark eyebrows at her, she bit her bottom lip. “I’m just heading home. Laura wanted to meet at a bar for a drink.”
“So you are drinking and driving?”
S he smiled, if she didn’t know better, she could have sworn she heard anger in his voice.
“Do you really think I would call someo ne who arrested me yesterday, and tell him I was driving drunk? I had one drink and then I had soda after that.” Now she was mad, she couldn’t believe he thought she would be so stupid as to drink and drive.
Stefan sighed. “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have accused you.”
Closing her eyes she grinned in her dark car. “Would you like to come over? Or if you want I can come to you?” She bit her lip again waiting for him to answer.
“Umm…not tonight, but I can come over after I get off tomorrow.”
She felt her heart drop. She knew that Laura was right, being friends with him and having sex was going to be hard on her. She knew she wanted more from him and he obviously didn’t. “Okay. Well then, call me to let me know.” She was about to hang up until she heard him mumble
