away and sat up. He swung his legs over the side of the bed.
“Are you going somewhere?” she asked as she sat up behind him.
He looked over his shoulder and smiled. “We both are.”
“I thought maybe you wanted to, you know, make love again.”
Torger leaned back and gave her a kiss. “Don’t worry. We’re going to do that. Only it’ll have to wait until we come back here.”
“Where are we going?”
“I figured we’d go across the street to the coffee shop so you can meet Kaisa and Cameron. They’re probably there now. Brolach and Waverly won’t be since they have the day off work.”
Rikki shifted to sit at Torger’s side, then ran her hand up and down his muscular thigh. “Are you sure you want to go this instant? There’s plenty of time for me to meet them another day.”
He picked up her hand and kissed the tips of her fingers. “True, but I think you should get to know them as soon as possible, especially Kaisa.” Torger smiled. “Remember I said I’d try to break you of your loner ways.”
He let go of her, stood, then picked his jeans off the floor. Torger put them on before he grabbed his t-shirt. Rikki really didn’t understand why he wanted the meeting to take place now. Obviously, he wouldn’t be put off, though.
Rikki slid off the bed and then gathered up her clothes. She headed to the bathroom. After using the toilet, she dressed. She came out to find Torger waiting for her in the hallway.
“All ready to go?” he asked.
She nodded. “Yes, but it’s still not too late to change your mind.” Rikki gave Torger what she hoped was a sexy grin and not a goofy one.
He chuckled and shook his head. “Come on. You need to meet new people, besides me, that is.”
“Fine. We’ll go.”
Torger grabbed her hand, then led Rikki out of the apartment. He waited for her to lock the door behind them before they headed down the stairs to the street level. It was just a short walk to arrive at the coffee shop.
He held the door open for her so she could enter ahead of him. There was a good amount of people sitting at tables, and the delicious smell of coffee and donuts made her think it wasn’t such a bad idea coming there, after all. She followed him to a booth where a man and woman sat, next to the large front window. The woman had similar enough features for Rikki to presume that was Kaisa, his sister, which meant the man was Cameron.
Her assumption proved correct when Torger introduced them. Cameron slid out of his side of the booth and then sat next to Kaisa so Rikki and Torger could sit together. A waitress arrived and asked Rikki and Torger what they’d like to order. Rikki settled for a coffee and a Boston cream donut. Torger ordered the same.
“So you must be Torger’s new girl,” Cameron said. Kaisa gave him a hard stare. He looked back at her. “What? I’m only stating the truth. I can smell him on—”
He didn’t get to finish his sentence since Kaisa elbowed him in the stomach, and his breath came out in a loud whoosh .
“Never mind him,” Kaisa said as she flicked Cameron a hard glance. “He sometimes doesn’t know how to be polite.”
Rikki chuckled. “It’s okay. Really.” She looked at Cameron. “And yes, I’m Torger’s new girl.” He gazed at Kaisa with a smug expression. “Are the two of you a couple?”
Kaisa gave an exaggerated shudder. “No, thank goodness. Cameron is more a brother to Torger and me. At times, an annoying younger brother.”
“Hey,” Cameron said with a scowl. “I may not be as ancient as you, but I’m not annoying.” Kaisa arched a brow in his direction. “Okay, most of the time I’m not.”
Kaisa shook her head. “Whatever helps you sleep at night.”
“And this is usually the time when I have to come between the two of them or the taunting gets out of hand,” Torger said with a laugh.
Rikki laughed with him. There was no mistaking the closeness between Torger, Kaisa and Cameron. It was something her life
