stage he was really drunk. I’m not sure he is going to remember how he got the bruises on his ass, and I’m sure he will wake up in the morning pretty damn sore.” I smiled at her.
“Poor guy. He is not going to be sitting on his ass for at least a few days. But, hey, that’s what he gets. He did ask for it.” She laughed.
“Yeah, he did.” I laughed with her. Remembering the way he looked us both in the eyes and told us to do our best. He may have thought that we wouldn’t actually accept that offer, but hey, it’s his own fault.
“He sure did. Too bad he was so drunk. I would love to see what his face looks like in the morning when he wakes up with a sore ass, and the only thing he remembers is walking into the strip club. Although I am sure his friends will fill him in on everything he doesn’t remember.” She giggled.
The waitress brought our food and we both dug in, eating in silence.
“I didn’t realize I was that hungry.” I wiped my mouth with my napkin before placing it on my empty plate.
“I am so ready for a bed.” Melody yawned as she leaned back in the booth. “And don’t think you are getting away with not telling me what is going on. I know there is something going on in that head of yours, but for now I will let it rest.” She smiled as she reached in her purse and pulled out a handful of ones.
We paid our bills and both went our separate ways. I got in my car and turned the heat on high. The ride home didn’t take long but the entire drive I spent daydreaming about Bryce. I couldn’t get him out of my mind. The way he had smelled, a slight citrusy scent combined with his cologne.
I dropped my purse on my dresser and pulled out a clean pair of sleep shorts and tank top, tossing them on my bed. I pulled a clean towel from the closet and turned on my shower. As the bathroom started to fill up with steam, I undressed. I stepped into the shower and let the hot water run over my body, stripping away all the tension.
As soon as I closed my eyes, I immediately saw his face again. As I washed my body, the whole time I was imagining what it would feel like if he was touching me. My eyes shot open as I caught myself imagining a man’s touch.
Reality slapped me in the face, as if someone had thrown a bucket of cold water over my head. How could I show someone my body, the scars, the one thing I kept hidden? How would someone find anything about my naked body anything but grotesque? I shook the thoughts from my head, finished washing my body, and stepped out of the shower. I pushed the thoughts of a man touching me as far back as I could. I dried off quick and dressed in my pajamas.

    Chapter Ten

My alarm clock went off and I sat up in bed reaching out to shut it off. Today was Saturday, and with being so distracted from thoughts of Bryce, I forgot to turn my alarm off. I lay back down and pulled a pillow over my face.
“Ugh, seriously,” I screamed into my pillow before tossing the pillow across the room and laying back down, hoping to fall back asleep. When I realized that wasn’t going to happen, I got up and changed my clothes. I needed coffee and fast. I pulled out my wad of money from the night before and counted out a twenty, stuffing the rest into an oversized hat box in my closet. I pulled on a beanie and made my way to Cups.
The line was out the door. I put my ear buds in and hit play on my favorite distraction playlist. I got lost in the music and before I knew it I had made my way through the line. I took my ear buds out and before I could say anything the barista was already asking.
    “Your usual?”
“Yes, please.” I smiled and handed over a ten dollar bill.
“Okay, Laura, it will be just a few minutes.” She handed me back my change.
I walked over to the other side of the counter to wait for my drink. I put one ear bud in and turned my music back on. When the barista handed me my drink, I put in the other ear bud
