to Las Vegas for me, and for the next few weeks, I may as well take the biker up on his offer.
I have done without sex for too long and if Dec is the one to break my dry spell. Well, I’ll just have to go with it. As the road slipped by, I slid my hand underneath the cut and T-shirt. Just as the previous day, we stopped at a Biker Club for lunch, and did a couple of other pit stops on the way.
When we re-mounted to continue with our journey to Comfort Springs, I snuggled up to Dec, inhaling the aroma of his aftershave against the flesh of his skin. As the scent of sandalwood invaded my brain, memories of the night before, began to flood back.
Declan Gallagher, has the tongue of the devil himself and when he turned those soulful eyes towards me, I was gone. There was no way I could turn him down. He hadn’t begged, damn, I wish I had made him beg, before I had capitulated. No, instead he had used my soft heart against me. His mama was in dire need of a rest; however, she was hesitant about putting his father in a hospice until her return. He had coated the urgency in my help on thickly. Because of Rayven’s commitments with the club, Kavan, and her own large family, Tabby was reluctant to ask her to take on any more responsibility, in case it broke her. Yep, Dec knew which buttons to press and I had dropped everything.
A quick call to my boss, telling him I wouldn’t be back, went smoother than I had anticipated. I understood I could easily be replaced. In the strip, girls are calling out for jobs and nothing remained vacant for long. I was realistic, I was aware I wasn’t indispensable. Next, I tackled Flynn. Flynn had given me that look. The one, which said I was a fool, but he wasn’t going to stop me. Again, I had proven to be dispensable when he moved Grace into my room before I had finished my packing. The only person, who appeared to be upset by my sudden departure, was Grace, and I think that had more to do with our cancelled shopping trip than the loss of my company.
Occasionally, we’d hit traffic, which Dec and Twiggy easily passed, leaving them far behind us. When we were met by stretches of barren land and roads, I would embrace the wind as it occasionally brushed against my flesh. In the scorching heat, the wind managed to cool my skin for a moment or two.
As the miles and time rolled by, I began to fantasize about living this life with Dec. On the back of his bike, we would travel from one end of the country to the other. As the fantasy took me further down a road I wasn’t ready yet to explore, I gave myself a mental shake, and with regret, I drew my head away from the comfort of Dec’s warm back, and drew in deep the air around me.
In the late afternoon Twiggy and Dec pulled into a layby with a vacant table and bench. From their panniers’ they extracted pies and drinks, which they had purchased from a gas station early this morning. As soon as I was free of the helmet, I gave my head a shake. It felt good to feel the strands of my hair whipping around my face and down my back. A sense of euphoria filled my body as I surveyed the empty plains surrounding us. It wouldn’t be long before this barren land is replaced with the lush green and browns of Louisiana.
As Dec passed me my chicken pie and soda, I bestowed a grateful smile towards him. After the long ride, the drink was both cool and refreshing, all thanks to the coolers, which the guys keep in their panniers. After we had finished eating, Twiggy and Yvette went for a walk. As I watched them, I wondered about their story. I knew a little about Yvette’s background, thanks to Ellie’s phone calls, and it would appear that Twiggy has taken the young woman under his wing. As I continued to study them, Dec pushes his knee against mine, drawing my attention back to him. Weakly, I gave him a smile. For the first time, since knowing Dec, I felt shy and awkward in his company.
“You can’t go on ignoring me Ivy.”
    “I’m not.”
    “Yes,
