the cameras and television ratings.â He eyed Liam. âBut thatâs not the case. Right, Liam?â His question was more of a suggestion. âLiam, youâll be there in a few days to begin, but, Charly,â he said, turning his attention to her, âyouâre leaving for Vegas tomorrow. Thatâs not only where the project is, itâs also where Lexâs new training camp is, and right now heâs training for his upcoming Showtime special, which will be taped in one of the casinos. So consider Lex the middle ground on this. The others have to meet there because Lex canât take a full day off due to the training. And let me warn you, youâll have to use your time wiselyâget the plans together quickly. Faizon has an upcoming movie shoot in Hollywood, so heâll be in and out. And Mkelâs recording and practicing for his upcoming tour in Los Angeles, so the schedule is tight.â
âMkel?â Charly said, her voice rising with panic and anger. âDid you just say Mkel?â She stood, and looked down at the paper again, this time really reading it. She shook her head. His name was right there in black and white. âWait a minute. I thought theyâhe, Mkel, was working on a New York project with some other guys.â
âYes. I said Mkel. Which is the reason we almost lost the project, but the contracts were already signed. I suggest you do whatever you can to fix it, because I heard heâs looking for a loophole to get out. And as far as him working on a New York project . . . as I said before, Charly. Bad press. Bad press. The guys were meeting in New York to look at a couple of projects similar to theirs, not making a deal for a project in New York. The contracts had been signed and the ink was already dry for the Las Vegas retreat. Now you see what I mean about bad press,â he said, chastising again, then got back to business. âAlso, your chaperoneâs information is on there too. Sheâs worked with Lexâs people before, and checks out great. Sheâs also the grandmotherly type whoâll take care of you, so there are no worries.â He shot Liam a look, like Liam was the one to approve Charlyâs affairs. âOkay?â
Liam nodded.
Charly shook her head. No, it wasnât okay. Nothing was cool with her and Mkel.
Mr. Day pointed. âAnd you might want to check out that third sheet, Charly. Thatâs the biggest news yet.â He smiled and winked.
Charly flipped over the paper, and gulped. âDoes this say what I think it says?â
Mr. Day nodded. âYes, you can read. Thatâs how huge this is, and thatâs how great I amâhow much I believe in you and Liam. Once you complete this project and work on the others with the guysâtheyâre opening multiple girlsâ retreats throughout the countryâyouâll get your other makeover show, which will air immediately following The Extreme Dream Team . Youâre only going to get a one-season contract, but itâs a beginning.â

C harly stood in the middle of the tarmac with one hand on her hip and the other drying her runny nose with the kazillionth Kleenex sheâd used since sheâd left New York. Drowsy from the allergy medicine sheâd taken again just an hour before, her usually sharp brain was discombobulated, and she had a hard time comprehending what she didnât see at Las Vegasâs airport. One, she thought, it should have been much bigger and, two, Vegas was a tourist spot, so surely the plane shouldâve had a walkway that connected to the terminal. She looked at the small aircraftâs stairwell, waiting for the other passengers to deplane. Passengers sheâd never gotten a chance to see because sheâd reached the airstrip around five-ish in the morning, right after sheâd guzzled a dose of nighttime Benadryl. She had been the first one to board, and had immediately fallen
