At the Billionaire's Pleasure Christmas Stocking
several of them were simply chasing each
other about.
    David
stepped out of the car and I followed him. The moment I left the
warmth of the backseat the cold air hit me instantly. My breath
formed little white puffs in front of my face and I scrambled in my
pockets searching for gloves. The place was beautiful but as far as
I was concerned in that instance it looked much better from the
warmth of a car.
    It must
have been written all over my face because when David turned to
look at me he immediately burst into laughter.
    "Not a
fan of the cold?" He teased as he wrapped his arm around me and
towed me towards the large house.
    It
looked far more like an over sized hotel than an actual house. Part
of me couldn't help but wonder just how much a place like this cost
to rent for the weekend. I shook my head and opened my mouth to
answer him. But I caught sight of a small petite blonde bounding
down the steps towards us.
    "You
made it!" She launched herself into David's arms. He was forced to
release his hold on me or they would have both tumbled backwards
down the steps. She wrapped herself around him, her legs around his
waist and her arms around his neck.
    I
watched them, a little stunned for a few seconds as she gushed on
and on about how thrilled she was to see him.
    David
caught sight of my expression and slowly began to extricate himself
from her grip.
    "Lucia,
this is, Carrie, the woman I was telling you about."
    She
turned her thousand watt smile on me, it faltered a little around
the edges as she took me in. I could imagine what she was thinking.
It was what every other woman thought when they saw me with David.
What is she doing with him!
    I
plastered a smile on myself and reached my hand out to her. But
Lucia decided on something else. She wrapped her arms around me and
dragged me forwards into a hug. It took me completely by surprise
almost making me lose my footing on the step. David's hand on the
small of my back steadied us both.
    "I'm so
glad to meet you, I've heard so much about you!" She released me
just as suddenly as she had grabbed me and inserted her body
between David and me. She linked him and started to drag him up the
steps towards the house.
    "Just
wait until you see what they've done with..." Her voice droned on
as they disappeared over the top step. Letting out a cold sigh I
followed. This was the woman David had been talking with on the
phone. She was even prettier than I could have imagined. Blonde
hair pulled back into a ponytail, with large expressive blue eyes.
Her make-up was very understated and I could practically smell the
money on her. The entire situation reminded me of one of my
favourite regency romance novels. Lucia was old money. And I was a
nobody. The fact that she was stunning didn't help my confidence.
Swallowing back my fears I climbed up the last few steps and made
my way into the house.
    The wall
of heat hit me instantly. I had never been more glad to be in a
centrally heated house. The chill from the air outside immediately
began to thaw from my bones as I wandered from room to
room.
    I
followed the sound of Lucia's babbling and girlish voice to the
kitchen. She was pouring two glasses of champagne and eyed me
suspiciously as I entered the room. She handed one to David and
held one for herself.
    "I
thought you might want to freshen up after your journey, while
David and I get reacquainted with one another." Daintily she sipped
from the glass and lifted one perfectly shaped eyebrow.
    She
didn't want me there. I could feel it. The fact that she was making
it so obvious in the way she was speaking to me surprised me a
little and left me speechless for a few moments.
    David
moved around the counter to my side and handed me the glass Lucia
had poured for him. "Lucy, I don't think you'll mind if I freshen
up as well. It was a long journey and well I have to show Carrie to
our quarters."
    Lucia's
face instantly fell. She tried to cover it up with a fake smile but
I could tell from the
