smiled. “Is that bad?”
“No, but I do feel sorry for all of the men there, if the women are like you.”
She shot him a grin but found herself looking into his eyes again. He believed her.
    “You believe me, don’t you?”
He nodded. “You have no reason to lie to me.”
    Tears streaked down her cheeks.
“Oh!” he sputtered. “I said the wrong thing.”
“No,” she said with a laugh. “No, you didn’t. You’re perfect. Like usual.” She wrapped her arms around him before realizing what she was actually doing.
Magnus leaned in and brushed his lips against her cheek first, before diving in and kissing her soft lips with his. She melted into his arms. It was warm, it was perfect, and it was wonderful. It had been a long time since Ellie had been with someone but she didn’t remember it being quite as passionate. She had sex before but in comparison to this – she didn’t think she was doing it right.
Ellie unfastened his belt and let it fall to the ground; then helped him pull his tunic off, revealing a body that she had seen and longed for before. Somehow tonight was different. In the moonlight, she could see every defining muscle, every curve made by the shadows. Magnus was definitely someone that women would faun over no matter what era they were from. She had seen plenty of men in her lifetime but he was something special. He was her hero.
Magnus undressed her slowly, first slipping off her belt, and kissing her stomach as he laid her on the grass. He moved the fabric from her, uncovering her body as though he were carefully unwrapping a gift. His hands searched her body, taking in every curve and goose-bump made by the cool night air. He hovered above her and kissed her lips again. Ellie wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pulling him closer to her. He gently lowered himself down, pressing his muscular body onto hers.
She felt his excitement growing in between her thighs and, as she did, a sigh escaped her lips. How long had she been waiting for this moment? Too long. He kissed her neck and shoulder, his hot breath tickling every inch in between. His hands found her breasts. Her breath was getting heavy. She could feel her cheeks flush with embarrassment. The vulnerability of being naked in the midnight air was both nerve-wracking and thrilling. And it only fueled her desire even more. Ellie could feel his swelling inching closer to her and she gasped.

Normally, the walk of shame always made Ellie feel dirty and guilty but there was no walk this morning. No shame. Instead, she walked down to the creek and bathed, remembering every touch and every sensation from the night before.

Chapter Seven
Ellie pulled the hooded cloak tight against her head. She never felt comfortable going out without Magnus but she needed to get some food while he was breaking down camp for the day. The denari that she had received for pawning Lucilia’s jewelry jingled in the leather pouch that Magnus had made for her. Thoughts of the night before raced through her head again.
Magnus was amazing. How had she not seen it before? Of course, that would be the last thought that went through her head before she was yanked into an alleyway. A jolt of pain shot through her shoulder and she wondered whether or not her shoulder was dislocated in the process. But when the assailant let go, the pain went away. Spinning around to face him, Ellie swung her fist out and hoped to get a piece of the guy but instead the man grasped at her wrist. It was the undertaker.
“You’re a face I was hoping to never see again,” she said.
The undertaker rolled his eyes. “That mouth of yours does not seem to have tamed one bit despite all that you have been through, witch,” he whispered.
Ellie scowled. “What do you want? Are you going to turn me in?”
    “No, of course not.”
    “What?”
“You are looking for the killer of those women, yes?”
    “You know who he is?”
    The undertaker chuckled. “Yes,
