compliment.” He produced a wallet from somewhere and slipped a credit card into the little leather thingy to pay the check with. Reaching over to rub her shoulder with one hand, he handed the waiter the check with the other. “I think you’re perfect, too.”
“No, seriously.” She shifted, so she could be far enough away from him to form a coherent thought. “I wasn’t fishing for a compliment. There must be something wrong with you.”
“Hmmm…” He lifted his eyes to the ceiling. “Let me think. Well, I can’t dance worth a damn. And my friends tell me I eat too much.”
Her gaze dropped to the flat plane that was his stomach. The image of that incredible set of abs wet and glistening as she’d seen them earlier flashed through her mind. “Doesn’t look like you’re hurting there.”
“I’m sure it’ll catch up to me someday.” “Shall we go?” he asked as he accepted his credit card from the waiter and signed the slip. He stood and offered a hand down to her.
She accepted his hand, and damn if that electric current didn’t zip up her arm again. Her panties were so damn wet that she could barely walk. Her knees were wobbly. She wrapped her arm around his to steady herself.
Nice! It was nice walking at his side like this. She felt strong yet protected, all at the same time.
He walked her outside, and only then did she realize how late had gotten. The crickets chirred, one of Jane’s all time favorite sounds. The parking lot was dark and nearly empty. They stopped at her car, and she rummaged through her purse for her keys. They’d better be there! She wouldn’t put it past Diana to steal them so she’d have to accept a ride from Josh.
Then again, a ride from Josh—or on him—might be fun. She forced herself to shake that thought out of her mind before it had fully developed. Considering her aroused state, she just might take that idea and run with it.
“Perhaps I can offer you a ride?”
“Nope. I know my keys are here. Somewhere.” She pulled out her wallet, which took three-quarters of her purse’s interior. “Here they are!” She jangled them before him. “See?”
He swiped them from her before she knew what he’d done. His grin was downright sinful. “And now they’re gone.”
She shot him a mocking smile. “Cute. Now, hand them over. I need to get home. It’s getting late.”
He lifted them high, just out of her reach. “Only if you promise me one more kiss.”
Okay, he was playing a juvenile game, but she could handle that. One good turn deserved another. He’d get what he had coming. She just needed to think quick.
Too bad her brain was on hold at the moment!
He leaned down, a goofy pucker screwing up his handsome face.
She could give him a kiss where he wouldn’t expect it, and steal the keys away. Maybe. Or, she could simply give him what he wanted.
What the hell? She pressed her mouth to his.
He didn’t respond. His mouth felt stiff under hers. His body remained still as a stone statue.
She pulled away. “What the hell was that?”
    “I might ask the same.”
    “You didn’t kiss me back.”
He tipped his head—that was a cute look for him, innocent, like a puppy. “Well, you didn’t kiss me first.”
“I sure did.” What was he talking about?
“That was not a kiss. At least, not the kind I was expecting from a woman as beautiful and passionate as you. It was a…a grandma kiss.”
She laughed, at the grandma kiss jab, but also at the beautiful thing, and at the passionate thing. Where did he get his lines? Did he read them somewhere? Practice them in front of a mirror?
“What are you laughing about?” He crossed his arms over his chest.
That mocking grin was the final straw. By God, she’d show him! She’d kiss the hell out of him until his balls were so flaming hot he couldn’t walk, and then she’d leave.
He’d be fucking a blow up doll or jerking off all night long to get rid of his blue balls!
