to leave.”
At his mo m’s comment, Michael felt Lily shake with silent laughter, her face buried in his chest, at the same time as he turned and found Ruben wiping his eyes with tears of laughter.
“You boys. I do know what sex is. I mean, how the heck do you think y ou and your brothers appeared?” She shook her head as she started walking towards the marquee, which had been set-up for the dancing. “Five minutes,” she shouted back.
“Did mom just mention sex?” Ruben asked, sitting down looking rather pale.
“Oh please.” Lily pushed away and glared at Ruben and Michael. “Your mom and dad probably had sex in all the places you five used to disappear to.”
Ruben stood, shuddered, and then gave his attention to Lily, “I really did not need to have that vision in my head.” He walked off towards one of the servers from his club.
Taking Lily’s hand , Michael started leading her towards the marquee, but not before he caught Ruben and, if memory served, Rosie, his server, practically nose-to-nose arguing.
Ruben’s club Kenza had be en closed for the past week while the glass in the front windows had been replaced, along with the frames, thanks to some vandalism, which had left everyone stunned, and angry. The attack had felt personal, but, out of the five of them, Ruben was the one who’d go out of his way to avoid trouble, whereas once-upon-a-time he’d be in the thick of it. When he found out who was responsible, there would be hell to pay.
Because of the attack on Kenza though, Ruben’s staff had been given paid leave and asked to work at the wedding. Michael was curious about Rosie, who Ruben had trouble staying away from. Ruben’s preoccupation had been hard to miss, which was why he’d noticed, even distracted with his wife’s beauty.
His wife. He didn’t think he’d ever get tired of calling her that. As she’d walked up the aisle towards him, she’d taken his breath away and nearly had him in tears. Lily, who was no t only beautiful on the outside but inside as well, wanted to spend her life with him. She had him wrapped around her little finger, which all his brothers knew and joked about. They could joke, but he knew if they got the same chance at the happiness he had, they’d be just the same, and he couldn’t wait to see it.
Lily mentioning she had someone in mind for Lucien didn’t sit well with him. His brother had deep scars, which were so much deeper on the inside than the visible ones on his body. He couldn’t imagine what it must have been like for him being trapped in his car, like he had been. Since then he’d closed off from the world, and women. He indulged Lily, but throwing women at him was something else entirely. He just hoped Lucien didn’t disappoint her too much.
Entering the marquee where the band had set-up for the evening, they walked straight on to the dance floor. Michael pulled Lily into his arms squeezing her tight.
The singer announced it was the last dance of the evening, and then started to sing ‘I don’t want to miss a thing’, a slow, romantic number, the original by Aerosmith.
Moving Lily slowly around the dance floor, he spotted his brother, Sebastian, standing a bit too close to Ramon’s girlfriend. He hadn’t missed the instant attraction, which had flown between the two of them not too long ago on the patio, but what the hell was Sebastian doing.
Lil y caught him frowning at them. “Michael, it might be best if you don’t get involved.”
“T here is something funny there.”
Lily frowned up at him , her eyebrow raised in questions.
“I don’t mean with Sebastian, I mean between Carla and Ramon. They just don’t seem…I don’t know.”
“You mean they don’t seem hot for each other?” Lily finished for him.
“Yeah.” He tucked her head back into his shoulder and whispered, “I’ve never seen Ramon give her a h ot kiss. Oh, I’ve seen them hug and kiss, but nothing with passion.”
“Talking about pas sion,
