through.
What was it about him that made it so difficult to separate business from personal? She didn’t want to like him. She didn’t want to care whether he liked her, either. And okay, so she wanted to fuck him, but given the work they did, that was unavoidable, wasn’t it?
Somehow, she had to seize control of this growing problem. Keep him in perspective. She had two choices, she realized. She could either convince him to fuck the fires out, or she could piss him off somehow. Make him want to retreat to arm’s length and stay there, permanently. She’d just gotten out of one doomed relationship and had no intention of entering into anything even remotely like it, now or ever again. She would have to be very frank with him, very straightforward, so things never had a chance to get awkward.
Mustering all her courage, she opened her mouth to call him out, when she was interrupted by a flustered-sounding Steph over the PA.
“Sorry, everyone. It’s not happening tonight. Thanks for coming in.”
Thomas groaned and let his head fall back against the seatback. “Jesus. Will this never end?”
He got up and hurried her into the aisle, through the lobby and outside. They followed a sidewalk all the way to the parking lot. Not that she minded getting out of there quickly, or getting away from him before more trouble could brew itself into frothy chaos. But now a new curiosity had taken hold. “What happened that you’re in such a hurry, all of a sudden?”
He shook his head. “Nothing. It’s just getting late, and you’ll have a lot of back and forth if your stuff didn’t show up.”
Snubbed. The man was obviously lying, and miles away already, mentally fixed on something or someone else.
“Goodnight, Thomas,” she told him, firm and dismissive.
“Yeah. And hey, have fun tomorrow.”
Then he was gone, and she drove into town to let herself into her new home. Her bed and office furniture had been delivered as promised. The housekeeping service had even showed up. Clean bedding awaited. She slept hard and woke late. She’d finished unpacking her scant belongings when Steph called. Her anal fantasy would take place at nine that evening.
Excited, Amanda floated through the remaining hours and presented herself, twenty minutes early, to the lobby of the Palace, the smallest and most exclusive building on the property. Its sumptuous suites were reserved for VIPs and specialty fantasies. Steph greeted her there and instead of leading them on to somewhere else as Amanda had expected, Steph took her upstairs and let them into a beautiful room done up in aqua, navy and cream. It had its own kitchen and living room, a huge bathroom with a hot tub already bubbling away, and the biggest bed she had ever seen.
On top sat a wedge pillow specifically designed to support her body and keep her in position with her bottom high in the air. Next to the bed, a towel-draped cart stood at the ready, presumably bearing the toys her mystery host would use on her tonight.
She smiled, excited for what was about to happen.
Steph let out a quiet laugh. “You can hardly wait, can you?”
“No, I’ve been waiting a long time. But aren’t these rooms usually booked? I mean, it’s pretty extravagant for just a staff member.”
“Well, that’s something I meant to tell you before you get started. I wouldn’t have dared take this away from Thomas normally, but one of the owners asked me for a favor. I had to honor it, you understand, though he feels awkward about the whole thing. You’ll make him feel comfortable, I trust.”
“Wait. One of the owners?” Amanda asked. “I thought you owned the place yourself.”
“Yes. I do. A controlling interest, at least. Two others hold the remaining shares, one of whom is Josh.”
Josh? Her highwayman? He had requested this, claimed her fantasy for his own. The jittery excitement swelled into outright impatience. “Don’t worry. I like Josh. I’ll make sure he enjoys it,
