wouldnât hurt to take some time out from yet another packed business trip.â She waved an arm elaborately.
âMy thoughts entirely,â he said, looking like a puppy.
âYou canât imagine how tiring it can be for us international business executives.â Again with the arm, this time melodramatically draped across her forehead.
âOh, I can easily imagine,â he said.
âMonaco today, London tomorrow. Hawaii before that. Busy, busy, busy!â Sadie was really getting into the role play now.
âHawaii? Really?â he asked. âWe were in Hawaii too, last month.â
âYou sure youâre not stalking me, in your âpowerâ yacht?â
âHa-ha! No, just some charity work, and itâs a
superyacht
, remember?â he said as he reached up and fiddled with his chain â a gold and silver St Christopher, she noticed.
He wasnât nervous, surely?
If he was, it made him all the more endearing. âAnd anyway,â he said, changing the subject, âyou stumbled on
my
deck, remember?â
âLiterally.â
âSo? What do you say?â
âSo â¦â
âYouâre milking this a bit, you know that donât you.â
âSo â¦â she teased, putting her finger on her lips, thinking. âSo â one word of warning. At the stroke of midnight I turn into a pumpkin, so I canât stay late.â
âFine by me, Iâve got an early start too. And anyway,â he said, looking knowingly into her eyes, âI quite like pumpkin.â
âI mean it! And itâs one night only, right? I mean donât make
too
many âplansâ, eh?â She raised an eyebrow at him.
âWell, Mrs Businesswoman, youâll be pleased to know I gave up making those sorts of âplansâ a long time ago â specially not with someone Iâve just met.â
âMakes two of us,â she replied.
âKindred spirits then,â he said. âPerfect. Great minds think alike. Or â¦â
â ⦠fools seldom differ!â they chorused together.
Sadie laughed aloud and it made him chuckle too.
âSo, sevenish okay? Shall I pick you up?â he asked.
âNo. Letâs meet wherever we are going.â
Best not to let him know which hotel Iâm in just in case he turns out to be a weirdo.
âOkay, how about the Buddha Bar up in Monte Carlo. Do you know it?â he asked.
âYes,â she said, recalling the handful of leaflets sheâd taken from the cab that dropped her off at this jetty.
Fate and destiny
.
He stepped back and took her hand â then kissed it â without taking his eyes off hers. A shiver shot down her spine. âItâs a date,â he said.
A date!
One night of fun with Hot Boat Guy. One night of being someone else. Someone desired.
Someone thatâs not boring old Sadie Samantha Turner.
She grabbed her waterlogged bag and leaned up to plant a kiss on his cheek, pulling away before he could respond. âSee you later then.â
âHavenât you forgotten something?â he said as he walked her down the gangplank.
âWhat?â she said, her eyes wide. âOh, you want this?â and she handed him the glossy brochure. âI know youâd like to buy one of these when youâre a grown-up. But for now, just stick the pictures on your wall â it might help you make your own luck.â
âHa-ha. No, I mean your name,â he said. âYou forgot to tell me your name and I didnât quite catch it from your loud phone calls. Iâm Mac. Pleased to meet you, Miss â¦â He did a mock bow and held out his hand.
âItâs
Ms
,â she said, wagging her finger at him. âAnd itâs a pleasure to meet you too, Mac. My name is Sss â¦â but as soon as Sadie heard her own name in her head, she instantly felt less adventurous. Instantly âlifeâ
