make me feel frumpy.â
âI canât imagine you ever looking frumpy!â Zoey told her aunt. âYou always look fashionable to me.â
Aunt Lulu laughed.
âJust another reason why I love you, Zo,â she said. âI guess I just feel frumpy because Iâm not used to having a bump!â
âDonât worry, Aunt Lulu,â Zoey said. âIâll make you something that you will feel good wearing . . . or at least Iâll try.â
âI know,â Aunt Lulu said. âIâm sure Iâll love whatever you make.â
Saturday dawned crisp and cool, with a sunny blue skyâperfect weather for a visit to the state fair on a date. Zoey put on her overalls-minidress and gingham shirt and a pair of comfortable sneakers, because Ezra warned her there would be a lot of walking!
âAre you looking forward to your rustic adventure?â Dad asked. âYou look prepared . . . and lovely.â
âI think so,â Zoey said, smiling at her dadâs compliment.
âMake sure you have some fried Oreos,â Marcus said. âTheyâre awesome.â
â Everything tastes good fried,â Dad said. âThe problem is itâs not healthy!â
â Everything? â Zoey asked. âEven . . . broccoli rabe? Itâs so bitter!â
âI bet if I put on a thick coating of breading and deep fried some broccoli rabe, even Zoey would eat them,â Dad said.
Marcus laughed. âNow, that Iâd like to see!â
âBlegh,â Zoey said, sticking out her tongue. âNo, thanks.â
Just then the doorbell rang.
âSounds like your date is here,â Dad said.
âBe normal. Donât be embarrassing,â Zoey said.
â Embarrassing? Who, us?â Marcus joked.
Zoey glared at him as she went to open the door for Ezra.
âHi, Zoey!â he said, looking really cute in a gingham shirt, and jeans. Then he noticed her outfit and grinned. âGreat taste in shirts!â
Zoey laughed. âYeah, we kind of look like the Farm Twins, donât we?â
âI like your outfit,â Ezra said. âSo, are you ready to rock the fair?â
âDefinitely,â Zoey said. She turned and saw Dad and Marcus standing in the kitchen doorway, waiting for their introductions.
âEzra, meet my dad and Marcus,â she blurted out quickly. âOkay, time to go!â
âNice to meet you, Mr. Webber,â Ezra said. âAnd Marcus.â
âAnd you, too, Ezra, however briefly,â Zoeyâs dad replied, grinning as Zoey hurried out the door.
âI apologize in advance for anything embarrassing that my parents or siblings do today,â Ezra said as they walked to his car. âI begged them to be on their best behavior, but there are no guarantees.â
Zoey laughed.
âI told my dad and brother to âbe normalâ when you rang the doorbell,â she said.
âWell, they did a good job,â Ezra said, smiling. âI hope my family does as well!â
Ezraâs younger brother, Robbie, and sister, Amelia, were cute and very talkative. Ezra and Zoey kept them busy playing I Spy and word games, which made the ride to the state fair pass quickly. Ezraâs parents were nice, tooâheâd obviously told them about Zoeyâs and her blog, and they asked her questions about her designs.
âEzra said youâre going to have a booth at the Mapleton Gift Fair this year,â Mrs. Marks said. âThatâs a great event. I go every year.â
âOh . . . ,â Zoey said. âWell . . . actually . . . I didnât get selected. Theyâre cutting back on clothing vendors this year.â
âThatâs too bad,â Mrs. Marks said.
âBetter luck next year,â Ezra said.
âI hope so.â Zoey sighed.
When they arrived at the fair, Mr. and Mrs. Marks checked that Zoey
