a mass of sweaty bodies that were satiated for the time being. “I don’t think I have the words to describe what we have just done. Great or fantastic just doesn’t feel like the right adjectives.”
“Larissa, I feel the same way. For some reason I don’t feel like I have cheated on my wife’s memory. I really don’t want this to be a one time thing. There are so many other things that I’d like to do with you. Not the least which is going to a museum and checking out the modern history exhibit.” He got out of bed and went over to the bathroom and soon I heard the sound of the shower.
I waited a little bit, but then I decided that I would surprise him by joining him. Getting out of bed, I had my hand on the doorknob, but then I caught something out of the corner of my eye. His telephone was on the night stand and I looked at it to see that it had the name of Jason Mcevoy. Why did Drake have this mans phone?
My back was towards the bathroom door and then I heard “I wished that you hadn’t seen that.” The softness of his voice now had taken on a hard edge, and I turned to come face to face with a…gun.
Chapter Five
I would say seeing Drake with a gun in his hand was the last thing I was going to see, but the proof was staring me in the face. This was a dangerous man and I didn’t have any idea what secrets he was hiding from me.
He began to move around the room, waving the gun in the air and looking at me and then out the window. “I can’t believe that you are going to make me do this. Why couldn’t you just tell me what I needed to know and then we could’ve let all of this go. I usually don’t have problems doing this kind of work, but what we shared together last night was unexpected.” I still wasn’t sure what was going on only that I was somehow in the middle of something that was beyond my understanding.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. You really have me at a loss. I thought that we were having a wonderful time and that I found one of the good ones. Now I don’t know what to think and you are seriously making me rethink getting back into the dating world.” Finding somebody that didn’t have baggage was almost impossible, but this was taking it to a whole other level.
He pointed the gun and I thought for sure that my life was over, but the gun did not go off. In fact, his hand was shaking like he was hesitating, but I couldn’t afford to make any sudden movements in case he took it as a threatening gesture. What I wanted to do was reach for the phone and get the hell out of here as fast as I could, but that would only be putting my life in unnecessary danger.
“Why, did this have to happen? I can’t believe that I got caught up in the moment and I’ve done something that only amateurs would do. I should be wiping off my fingerprints and leaving your body to be taken care of by the cleaners. Believe me I want to pull the trigger, but I just can’t do it.” I was looking around trying to find something to use as a weapon to protect myself, but the only thing I could see was this ashtray that was sitting by the door. I knew that if I tried to reach for it that he would be on me in a second, so I was just going to have to wait and see how this played out.
“I still don’t know what you’re talking about and maybe if you sing a few bars I might be able to play along.” I usually make snide remarks when I feel nervous or out of my element and this was certainly both of those combined into one. “You’re sending me mixed signals and having you hanging onto that gun is scaring me out of my mind.” I was trying to make him see that what he was doing was wrong, but I still couldn’t understand why he was doing it in the first place.
“Give me time to think, because right now I’m screwed and my life isn’t worth a plum nickel.” He sat down with the gun in his hand still raised over his head. He was mumbling something underneath his breath, but I wasn’t
