want to even think about these boxes right now. I don’t have cable yet, but my old DVDs are right here, I think.” She opened the flaps of another box and shuffled through the cases inside. “Want to watch something?”
    “Sure. What’ve you got?”
Nothing interesting, she suddenly realized. Her collection was very dated. He’d think her tastes were ancient.
Ryan joined her, rummaging through the movies. “ Jerry McGuire , a good balance of comedy, drama and romance. I love old movies.”
Old movies. Camilla remembered seeing the film at a theater when she was in high school—not so long ago, it seemed like—but she smiled and agreed. “It’s a classic.”
“I’ll hook up your system. Why don’t you spread a blanket on the floor so we can stretch out more? That couch is a little cramped.”
Camilla fashioned a pallet from several quilts and comforters piled up. She poured them each a glass of whiskey, then leaned against the pillows and watched Ryan hook up her trusty old DVD player. After a few minutes, he handed her the remote and settled beside her.
“Do you want something else to eat?” she asked. “I probably have popcorn if I can find it.”
“No. This is all I want.” He sipped Sam’s favorite Scotch then examined the glass of amber liquid. “Smooth.”
Camilla savored the warmth rolling down her throat to her stomach, and the warmth of Ryan’s body stretched out beside hers. He still wore only underwear. She’d changed into shorts and was braless under her tank top. This was like a pajama party, a sexy one.
By the time the “show me the money” scene came onscreen, Camilla had curled next to Ryan with her head on his chest, her arm draped over his lean belly and a leg hooked over his. He sat with his back against the couch, sheltering her with one arm.
“Hey, you falling asleep?” he asked softly.
Her eyes flew open. “A little.”
    “C’mere.”
He pulled her in front of him and began massaging her shoulders. He worked out from her neck, across her shoulders, then pressed his fingers along her spine, releasing all tension. His warm palms made slow circles that eased the little aches and pains in her mid and lower back.
Camilla moaned. “This is so nice. But I should do this for you. You’re the one who strained his muscles all day.”
His nuzzling lips on the back of her neck made her quiver. “Between the two of us, I think you’ve had the harder day. I know it wasn’t easy for you to leave your home.”
She thought about the difficulty and the necessity of moving out. “It’s been almost a year since Sam died. Ten months. They tell you not to make any major life changes right away, no new job or house, but I think ten months is long enough. I couldn’t stay where we’d lived together any longer. I had to get free of all those memories.”
“I understand.” More soft kisses peppered the tops of her shoulders and her upper back. “Not to put down your new place, but why here? You could’ve rented in a better area.”
She studied the chipped paint on the windowsills, the uneven hang of the door in its frame. “I liked this place right away. It reminds me of an apartment I had in college. Sort of like pressing a reset button.”
“Starting over,” he whispered against her spine as he pulled her tank straps down her shoulders. His fingers skimmed lightly over her skin leaving trails of heat in their wake.
“Yeah.” She raised her arms and Ryan removed her top.
Her breasts barely filled his big hands. She glanced down at his fingers plucking and rolling her nipples. The sweet ache plunged straight down to her pussy. Her gaze flicked to the screen where the deaf couple in the elevator signed You complete me , and then her eyes closed in pleasure.
Ryan slipped a hand under the waistband of her shorts and massaged until her clit grew hard and her pussy buttery from the delicate strokes. She moaned and peeled off her shorts to lie nude between his legs.
