moment
and then smile at the old chief, “Of course, I understand.  And I highly
respect the tribe’s rule.  But I’m not a captive.  I’m not an enemy tribe girl
conquered on this planet.  I am from the Earth.”
    His face softens.  Soon, a
tiny smile appears on his wrinkle-ridden visage.  “Is that so?  You came down
from the sky, huh?  The fact is that there are many Earth girls on this planet,
in this tribe and others.”  He turns to Auzo. “Where did you find this girl?  Floating
in the sky?”  His sarcasm is obvious.
    “Yes,” Auzo’s deep baritone
is full of confidence.
    “W-h-a-t?” the chief stares
at Auzo, speechless.  After a long while, he says slowly, “Auzo, you know the
punishment for lying to the chief, right?”
“Yes, death.  But I did find
her in the sky.”
The chief stands up, and steps
towards Auzo.  He stares at him for a long time and then puts up a smile, “You
serious?”
    “Yes.  She stepped on an
animal trap.”
    The chief nods slightly,
sitting down again.  He thinks for a while and then looks at Auzo again, “Auzo,
you’re my best warrior.  You deserve anything.  But this girl is too pretty. She
has also impressed me too much.”
    “She impressed you?  How?”
Auzo asks.
    “She’s the only one who’s
ever said ‘no’ to me. I like girls with strong mind.  That’s fabulous.”
    Oh, no.  He is smiling
at me.  His gaze is so hungry.  I know what he wants from me.  I will have to think
fast to find a solution.
I’m still cold and hurt.  My
head is giving me a terrible headache.  I feel so horrible that I can barely
think.  But I have to think fast to get out of this.  Come on, Leila, you’re
a smart girl.  You can do it this time.
    Auzo is stomping back and
forth, breathing heavily.
He stops and looks at me,
shaking his head.  Then he stomps around again.
He stops one more time and
looks right into Zapo’s eyes, “Zapo, she’s not a captive.  She is a gift from
the Earth.  So she is not the property of the tribe.”
Smart, Auzo.  I do want to
run over to give him a big kiss.
    The chief’s jaw drops.  He
looks at Auzo with widened eyes, speechless.  After a while, a mysterious smile
crawls onto his face.  “Stepping on a trap doesn’t mean much.  She might have
escaped from another tribe.”
    “Damn it,” Auzo mumbles.  He
thinks for a while and then says, “But she knows nothing about us.  She doesn’t
believe that we are Affendorians.  Isn’t that weird?  We’re the largest tribe
on this planet.  Everyone knows us.  But she doesn’t know.  She must not have
lived here.”
“Is that so, Leila?  You actually
dropped from the sky and fall onto an animal trap, huh?”
    That reminds me something—the
girls trapped in the spaceship wreckage.  Damn, I should have thought about
them the moment I was in this tent.  “Look, we were captured by some
Affendorians, um…, different kind, and—”
“There is only one kind of
Affendorian.   That’s us, Leila,” the chief interrupts.
    “Zapo, why don’t you let
Leila finish?” Auzo stares at him.
He stares back.  After a few
moments he nods to me.  “Go ahead, finish your story .”
    “Those Affendorians wanted to
sell us.  But we fought back.”
    “And you won and escaped,
huh?” That fucking chief interrupts me again.
    I’m a bit angry but I need
their help now.  So I take a deep breath and then continue, “Listen, this may
sound so unbelievable.  But since the spaceship crashed on your planet almost a
day ago, the other girls have been trapped in the wreckage. They are barely
surviving and must be rescued.  They may die at any moment.”
“Where are they?” Auzo grabs my
hand.
“At the top of the valley.”
    “Where I found you?”
    “Yes.”
    Auzo looks at the chief,
“Zapo?”
“Get your guys,” the chief stands
up and rushes out of the tent.

Auzo picks up a horn hanging
from the wall and rushes out.  Soon, the long
