condom, I decide to pretend to be asleep when he comes back, unless he is going to tell me we don’t need to say anything else.
I hear him return and get into bed, he pulls me back like always so he can hold me, if he says anything I don’t hear as I fall to sleep.
I come to the next morning, Adam is stood by the bed fully dressed holding a cup of coffee
“Morning, I have to go, the deal goes through today”
“Ok”
“Thank you for last night”
“Huh Huh”
“I will call you”
“Ok”
“I love you Liv” I feel him run his hands down my back and then he leaves.
Chapter 9
I eventually get up and get to work, making it just before everyone else arrives, I know I’m sat here with a smile on my face; just thinking about Adam can do that to me. Hannah notices that I’m happier this morning
“So Olivia, did someone have something last night that can put a smile on her face like that this morning?” she says pointing at me
“Yes Hannah, I did” I say, feeling myself blush
“Oh ok, well I don’t need to ask anymore, I would bet a million dollars that Adam could put a smile on any woman’s face”
“Thanks Hannah” I say raising my eyebrow at her
“Don’t mention it, so it’s all back on then?”
“No not really, I think he just showed me what I was missing actually”
“Jesus you needed a reminder, I would thought he would be unforgettable”
“Yeah but sometimes other things happen, life gets in the way doesn’t it”
“OK, well here’s your coffee coming” she says nodding her head towards Adam’s PA
We both watch as Conrad knocks on the door and brings my coffee in
“Morning Conrad” I say
“Good morning Olivia, what a lovely day it is today especially when my boss has a smile on his face to match the one you are wearing” He hands me my coffee and a bag
“What’s this?”
“Adam says you might need some sugar this morning”
“Thank you” I might blush slightly as know everybody in my office knows we had sex last night.
I watch as they both leave the room, I pick up my cup and lean back in my chair, my thoughts returning to last night, I must almost be dreaming because I jump when my phone rings, I finish the call then hear a strange noise from outside, I pick my coffee up and walk up to the window, I look around, this office looks out over a large courtyard area, there’s a coffee shop with lots of white tables and monochrome umbrellas over them, shading each of the people sat underneath, I watch all the different kinds of people for a while, the mothers with their young babies, to the single man and an older couple holding each other’s hands as they eat lunch and it’s then that I spot them, Adam and that girl from the photos. I move forward and study what they are doing, she has a hold of one his arms, he’s not touching her but he’s not moving away either, he looks absolutely livid though, I wonder what’s happening… then I look down a little further and see her swollen belly, she must be at least seven months pregnant, I watch as she leans in and places a kiss on his lips. My hand jumps up to my mouth and my heart drops. He turns and walks back towards the building and she’s just standing there with a big, smug smile on her face and both of her petite, slender hands are cradling her stomach. All kinds of thoughts are flying through my mind like when Adam told me to “Give him a month or two” Oh my God, it’s his baby.
I turn and walk back to my desk as the numb feeling of shock and despair washes over me. I hold back the tears as I shut down my computer and slam the doors shut on my cabinets and lock them. On my way out I pick up my coat and bag from the rail by my door and stop by Hannah’s desk.
“Hannah I’m not feeling well, I’m going home, I will call you later” I say I don’t wait for her to answer as I walk away to the door.
I hurry to my car and
