with her heart suddenly beating hard and fast in her chest, she stepped over the threshold before she lost the courage to do so. Once she was inside, she closed the door, and the sound of the lock clicking into place echoed in the silent room.
It took her eyes a few seconds to adjust to the softer, subtler lighting. A glittering crystal chandelier overhead produced just enough illumination to set the scene for seduction. At least a dozen tapered candles flickered from a table near the luxurious four-poster bed, which was covered in silky blue linens. The elegantly carved canopy and headboard were inlaid with mirrors, and to her right was a play area set up with odd-shaped pieces of furniture covered in leather, along with strange contraptions hanging from the walls and ceilings, and shelves of other devices and implements for more elevated sex play.
She shivered as she caught sight of an entire rack of assorted floggers, canes, and crops. What the hell have I gotten myself into? And with whom?
Just as the thought passed through her mind, a soft sound came from across the room, and her gaze immediately searched the shadowed corner. She could just barely make out the outline of a male form sitting in a chair, and when he stood up and started toward her, Kendall’s breath caught in her throat as she watched Jase gradually close the distance between them.
Shock rendered her speechless, and all she could do was take in his bare feet, the black slacks that fit him to perfection, and the fact that he’d already stripped out of his shirt—as if he’d made himself comfortable while waiting for her to arrive. His chest was bare, and each step he took made the toned muscles along his abdomen flex and her own stomach clench.
He stopped an arm’s length away from her, and she jerked her gaze to his gorgeous face, watching as a slow smile kicked up the corners of his sensual mouth.
    “Hello, sweetheart,” he greeted her.
Just the intimate sound of his voice, and the way his eyes trailed over her, made her insides liquefy. The spark and heated chemistry that had been missing with Dawson and Wyatt roared to life now. The sexual tension between her and Jase was already so palpable, and he hadn’t even touched her.
She swallowed hard, her mind racing with so many questions. Jase hadn’t been a participant at the auction, so why was she there with him ? “What are you doing here?”
He raised a light brown brow, as if the answer was obvious. “I submitted the winning bid, which means you’re all mine for tonight, to do with as I please. Within your limits, of course,” he added softly.
You’re all mine for tonight, to do with as I please . Even as his statement caused delicious tremors to take hold, she shook her head in confusion, trying to make sense of it all. “But… how ?”
“It’s a silent auction, and with the app, you can pretty much bid from anywhere,” he explained easily. “Though I do have to say, I was damn lucky to come in as the highest bid when the auction ended, considering the three-way bidding war between myself, Dawson, and Wyatt. It was damn close.”
She didn’t even want to know how high that final, winning offer had been, and the price Jase had paid to secure a night with her. She still couldn’t believe he was here, that he’d known about the auction, about her being up for bid . . . and then realization struck. Oh, my God . “ You sent me the invitation to The Players Club to participate in tonight’s charity auction.” It wasn’t a question, but now it made sense that her girlfriends had denied knowing anything about the invite. “Why?”
“You know exactly why , Kendall.” His eyes were dark and serious, so seductive and hypnotic. “I’m stepping up my game just like I told you I would, and doing whatever it takes to convince you to give me a chance. Though I find it incredibly interesting that you won’t go out on a date with me, yet you accepted an invitation to The
