“Don’t Cha”
seemed to raise Jana’s pulse—or was it the man looking at her with such heat in his sapphire eyes it made her insides melt?
The CD player had to be a new addition to the kitchen, because Lisa’s mother’s philosophy was that when you sat down for a meal it was family www.samhainpublishing.com 33

time. She allowed no interference and even demanded that each person around the table contribute. It was the only time Jana had felt a part of a family unit.
A plate in each hand, Nicolas moved toward the table. Even though he was almost naked, he walked with confidence and authority, like he owned the kitchen and possibly everything in it. Before Jana he set one omelet surrounded by an arrangement of peaches, watermelon, and strawberries lightly bathed in thick cream. Then he went back and retrieved the other plate with the sterling silver dome on it. This one he set in front of Lisa.
Jana fumbled with the fork next to her plate. Everything looked delicious. Her stomach growled, reminding her that she hadn’t eaten since breakfast yesterday.
Lisa reached for the dome and then looked up at him.
    He slowly shook his head.
“We’re playing outside the bedroom?” Lisa asked with hesitancy in her tone.
Nicolas grasped her chin between his thumb and forefinger tilting her chin toward him. He leaned forward and kissed her so lightly Jana wondered whether their lips actually touched.
“I’m changing the rules.” His deep, sexy voice sent a tremor up Jana’s spine and Lisa must have felt it too because Jana saw her friend’s body shiver. “Do you accept these changes?” he asked.
Lisa eyes grew dark. Her tongue slowly circled her lips, as her chest rose lifting her breasts. “If it pleases you, Milord.” Her voice dropped in pitch, grew sexy and warm like honey.
Milord? What game did these two have going? Jana sat rigid in her chair.
Nicolas’s nostrils flared. “Oh, baby, it would please me beyond your imagination.” With his words the heat in the room spiraled upward. Add the sexy beat of the music playing in the background and Jana could see exactly where this was going.
That did it. She was out of here.

Well, she would be leaving just as soon as her legs responded. She had her thighs squeezed tightly together to control the ache throbbing between them. Her fork fell out of her hand, making a clinking noise that neither of the other two people in the room seemed to be aware of.
Lisa dropped one shoulder and the strap of her sundress slipped down her arm. “What may I do to pleasure you, Milord?”
He lightly rubbed his thumb across the bare skin of her shoulder.
“Strip for me,” he breathed and Jana felt his words as if they caressed her nipples, teasing them to even harder buds.
Jana jolted from her chair, the back legs scraping across the tile floor before wobbling and settling down. “That’s my cue to leave.” Her heart was fluttering madly.
A brief look of concern filled Lisa’s eyes and then vanished. “Jana, do you trust me?”
“With my life, but this is a whole different ballgame. I shouldn’t be here. Especially, if you guys are going to—” Heat flared across Jana’s face.
“Fuck?” A Cheshire cat grin curved Lisa’s perfect lips.
Jana swallowed hard, her face growing warmer as her gaze went from Lisa’s to Nicolas’s. His expression was sultry.
“Well…yeah,” Jana said, before she pivoted, moving away from the table when she heard, “Brrrock…” Lisa held on to the last note, before saying, “Chicken.”
Jana spun around to face Lisa as her friend starting clucking and laughing. “I’m not chicken,” Jana insisted.
“Face it. You’re scared shitless. Brrrock…” Lisa mocked her.
“She looks scared to me,” Nicolas added with a slight smile.
“Oh. Fuck you both,” Jana fumed with embarrassment.
Nicolas raised one brow. “Now that’s an idea.”
    “Jana.”
