the way he kissed you?”
Taletha sighed. “Fine, you’re right. We’re into each other. But that doesn’t mean I should have let him kiss me.”
    “Why not?”
“Do you know how many professional dance partners have gotten romantically involved and ended up nearly destroying their careers as a result?”
“It doesn’t happen to all of them, though.”
“But it happens to most of them. I don’t want to run the risk of ruining a fantastic dance partnership over my libido.”
“You know it’s not just about sex with Morris, though. You love him.”
“To have things fall apart over sex is one thing. To lose my partnership and get my heart broken at the same time would be even worse.”
“I think you and Morris could overcome the odds. I have complete faith in the two of you.”
“Thanks, but it’s just not a risk I’m willing to take”
“You’d better explain that to them, then,” Lynne said, nodding in their direction. Adam and Morris had finally noticed that Taletha was back and were making a beeline in her direction. “Good luck. I’ll see you in the morning.” Lynne gave Taletha a quick hug and then disappeared into the crowd.
“Everything okay with Emily?” Morris asked.
    “Yeah, I think so.”
“What’s wrong?” Adam asked. “You still look upset.”
“When one of your employees storms off, well—to say it’s distressing is an understatement.”
“Emily was being completely irrational,” Morris said.
“Irrational or not, she was feeling hurt, and I don’t want my employees getting hurt. That goes for the two of you as well.”
Adam looked confused. “How could we get hurt?”
“Sex sometimes makes things complicated,” Taletha said. “All of our hearts are on the line. I don’t even want to think about all the ways our working relationships could get screwed up if things go wrong.”
“I won’t let that happen,” Adam said. “You’re too important to me.”
    “Me, too,” Morris insisted.
“Look, nobody intends for relationships to go bad. But I’d be willing to bet that at any given time, there are more broken hearts than happy couples.”
    “But we could be different.”
Taletha sighed. “Let’s just—let’s just go home and think things over, okay?”
Morris nodded. “Okay. If that’s what you want.”
“I do. Thank you both for an”—she gave a shy smile—“for an exciting evening. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need some sleep.”
Taletha turned and slipped out the door. She hailed a cab and went back to her apartment, where she passed a restless night in confused solitude.

“Did that just happen?” Morris asked as he watched the bar door swing shut behind Taletha’s deliciously round ass.
“Yeah, that just happened. I have to say, that didn’t exactly go as I expected.”
    “Me neither. So, now what?”
Adam shrugged. “Only one thing left for us to do—drink. How about I buy us some tequila shots?”
Morris just shrugged. He was too hurt by Taletha’s sudden about-face that even the thought of drinking away his troubles didn’t cheer him up.
“Come on, man. A few drinks will lift our spirits, and it’s not like either of us needs to drive home.”
The more Adam talked and tried to cheer him up, the more depressed Morris felt. I waited for years to kiss her. I was so patient, never wanting to push her. And then, the second she let me in, she freaked out and pushed me away .
“I got exactly what I wanted—for fifteen minutes. I’m all the way back at square one.”
“Come on, it was just a few kisses.”
“Not to me, it wasn’t. It was the culmination of years of hope and unrequited love. Just when I thought it was safe to let my guard down, it turns out I was wrong. Now, I don’t know how I’ll even face Taletha when we have to practice tomorrow”
“You care too much about her, and about the studio, to let yourself bring drama into things. You’re going to have a drink with me, and
