“This will keep us going for a while at least,” she had said, chuckling, “It is bland, but nutritious enough to provide us with good food and enough calories to survive. With your water supply and the food we have found we can be reasonably comfortable for a while Simon.” Simon had nodded and agreed they should try getting as much of it back to the shop as possible.
“We need to locate a pickup, and then we can try getting it into the alley behind the gun shop, load up all the bounty and get it back to my place.” Simon said, “Otherwise we will need to make multiple trips with this cart. That will be too much work I think, unless you have any other ideas?”
Dawson looked at him, nodding at his suggestion, but stopped him there. “A pickup will make too much noise, we need something quieter.” she suggested, “Hopefully there is a Prius close by, as that could be used in electric mode, to provide us with a silent way of getting things back.”
“Good idea Dawson, I like that. Maybe we need to get that looked into right away.” Simon said. Looking at Phil, then spoke, “Phil, can you take one of the others and find us a Prius?” Phil nodded and started to move toward the door leading to the front of the shop. He spoke to George asking him to accompany him out into the street to look for a Prius.

    Chapter Eight

Dawson and Simon were meanwhile looking at loading the rest of the weapons into the cart, so they could get them moved across to the shop easier. They packed the ammunition into the bottom, layering it with the AR-15’s on top, and started to pull the cart toward the front of the shop. That was when all hell broke loose with gunfire erupting from across the street. Simon and Dawson dropped the handle of the trolley they were pulling and ran to the front door. They had their glocks out and were ready for action as they approached the spot where Mo and Edgar were crouching down behind a cabinet near the front. Dawson asked the two of them where they thought the shots were coming from as well as what or who was being shot at. Mo spoke saying that he had heard the gunshots from across the street, and they had immediately ducked to get out of the way. He quickly explained to them without making himself an immediate target, stayed down and described where he saw the flashes from the gunfire erupt. Dawson looked worriedly at Simon, motioned for him to follow her to the back where they could have a decent conversation without getting their asses shot off. Dawson pointed out her plan to Simon, saying she would head out the back, and Simon was to give her 5 minutes then lay down intermittent fire in the direction Mo had explained to them. Simon agreed to move to the front next to Mo, and letting him know Dawson would be attacking the shooter he had pointed out.
Dawson moved to the door they had locked earlier, unlocked it and taken the key out with her, leaving the two inside with no escape, but hopefully they would not need it. She made her way quickly to the end of the alley, and started to move toward the building using cover that was not perfect but would suffice for now. She was nearly there when she heard glass shattering and the AR fire sporadically, drawing the shooters fire, and she sprinted across the street to get under an awning hiding her from the shooter. There she caught her breath, waiting for the next barrage to move up toward the front of the building and gain entry. As soon as she heard their fire, she got up and ran; heading for the front door of the apartments, and quickly got herself inside. Simon had seen her progress across the street and kept up his rate of fire, but had not depleted his ammunition completely. Mo had done likewise and the two of them could now try and snipe the hostile, seeing if they could possibly wing him or just get him to focus on them creating the distraction Dawson needed. Dawson hit the barrier of objects, and had negotiated them safely to gain
