white carpet. He stood in the
nude, bulging with muscle.
I gasped, trying not to focus on his dick as
it hung around his knee. I’d had a difficult time not playing with
it when I’d put the outfit on.
“Khaki? I’ve killed people for less,” Blaze
said as leather appeared, swirling up his golden sculpted body and
forming into pants.
“I didn’t know you had any clothing
preferences.” I sat up. “Blaze, I need your help.”
He stood in front of me for a few seconds.
His eyes traveled down my body, making me shift uncomfortably in my
yellow night shirt and then he turned around and headed for the
door.
“No! Blaze, I need you.” I jumped off the
couch and raced his way, almost bumping into him as he stopped in
front of the door. “I’m sorry. I’ll never bite you again. I just
didn’t want to be…vulnerable. You just appeared with a deal and
your fingers…I needed time to think.”
His back muscles flexed as he rolled his
shoulders and exhaled.
“What is Adae holding for the debt?” He
remained staring at the door.
“My daughter.” I swallowed the pain that was
rising in my chest and tried to make the image of Jade’s little
face disappear.
    “How old?”
“Four.” I sighed. “Only two million dollars
of my husband’s debt remain.”
Blaze turned around. Chocolate eyes appeared
instead of silver. I counted that as a good sign. His lips formed
into a thin angry line. A rumbling sounded in his massive
chest.
    Maybe not a good sign.
I stepped back. His blood had made me
stronger, but I was sure he could still kill me within seconds.
Maybe I made a mistake by stopping him from leaving.
    Am I playing with fire?
Someone banged at the door and yelled through
it, “Mrs. Dupree is everything okay?”
I tried to calm myself down and said in a
shaky voice, “Everything is fine.”
“The guests below thought they heard
fighting,” he replied.
“They heard wrong. My husband and I were
sleeping in bed.”
    Blaze scowled at me.
“Well,” the guy continued. “If you need
anything, maybe some—”
“We are fine!” Blaze roared. “Now leave,
human, before I feast on your soul.”
My mouth dropped open. I narrowed my eyes at
him. “Um, sorry…that was the television. I’ll turn it down.”
I heard nothing else, no response.
“Blaze, that was unnecessary,” I whispered.
“The hotel may call the police.”
“Why isn’t your husband taking care of the
debt?” Blaze leaned his head to the side. “Have you also put him to
sleep? Is he chained somewhere in a basement, wearing a corduroy
outfit?”
“He disappeared after the loan. Adae looked
for him for years and decided to take my daughter and get the money
from me.” I combed my fingers through my wig. “I won’t bite you.
You can feed from me all you want after we get her. I just want my
daughter back.”
    “I don’t believe Adae didn’t find your
husband,” Blaze said. “The wizard’s resources are far reaching. He
always knows where I am. He just can’t catch me.”
“Adae never found him,” I insisted.
“It’s a sad story, but how do I know I can
trust you?’ He raised his eyebrows and crossed his arms over his
chest. “You’re the first woman to put me in chains.”
“Test me.” I got up on the tip of my toes and
pressed my lips to his.
    He snarled.
The couch and chairs rose to the ceiling.
I jumped back. “I’m not going to bite.”
The furniture slammed down to the ground.
Silence filled the air. He scowled at me. His
body was completely still.
Part of me knew I was facing defeat.
It was too late. I’d fucked it up. Shaking my
head, I exhaled and tried one more tactic.
    Last chance, Carmen.
I grabbed the bottom of my shirt and pulled
it off. The room’s chilly temperature nipped at my exposed nipples.
I balled the shirt up and threw it at him.
He didn’t move as it hit his broad shoulder
and fell down to the floor. The whole time his eyes remained on
mine. “You think those are the
