too
bad, she reassured herself. Rasheed and Chris had done all the hard work while
she’d mostly supervised.
“You’re even more beautiful than I thought,” Vince
said softly, devouring her with those bedroom eyes.
    Oh,
God.
Rebecca set the box down on the floor and sat
on it before her knees gave out. This was too much. He was too much, looking hotter than any man had a right to in a
black turtleneck that molded broad shoulders and a wide, muscular chest.
Low-rise blue jeans clung to the corded muscles of his thighs, and he wore a
pair of black boots that looked enormous.
    You
know what they say about men with big feet….
Rebecca swallowed hard and drew her gaze back
up to Vince’s face. It was a long journey, he was so tall.
“What are you doing here?” she asked. “Do you
live in this building?”
He shook his head. “Just visiting someone.”
“Oh?” An image of him clasped between some
lucky woman’s legs flashed through Rebecca’s mind, and without realizing it she
frowned. It was only after six p.m. Too early for a booty call.
    Wasn’t
it?
She’d been out of the game too long.
“Did you have a good time with your friend?”
she asked casually.
His mouth twitched at her not-so-subtle
attempt to learn the sex of the person he was visiting. “Not yet,” he drawled.
“I just arrived.”
“Oh. Well, don’t let me keep you, then.”
He flashed a slow, lazy grin. “Believe me, Rebecca,
I don’t mind being kept.”
She found herself smiling up at him. He was a
shameless flirt, but he was so damn sexy and irresistible, she couldn’t help
herself.
So that she wouldn’t have to keep stretching
her neck to look up at him, he dropped to his haunches beside her. “You should
do that more often,” he told her.
“Do what?” Rebecca asked, trying not to stare
at the way his jeans molded his powerful thighs. But anywhere her gaze landed was dangerous territory. From his
mesmerizing dark eyes to his full, sensual lips, Vince Gray was a minefield of virile
maleness.
“Smile,” he answered. “You should smile more
often. It takes my breath away.”
Ignoring the way her belly quivered, Rebecca
gave him a look of mock severity. “Do you talk this way to every strange female
you encounter, Mr. Gray?”
    “Depends.”
    Her brow arched. “On what?”
    “Your definition of strange.”
Rebecca laughed. He was sexy, charming and funny—a lethal combination.
    Be
still, my heart.
“You ought to be illegal, Mr. Gray.”
“Said the pot to the kettle.” There he went
again, eating her up with those eyes of his. “And whatever happened to being on
a first-name basis?”
    “We hardly know each other.”
“That can easily be rectified,” he said, low
and deep.
    Their gazes locked.
Suddenly, all Rebecca could think about was
the lap dance she’d given him in her erotic fantasy, and the things he’d done
to her afterward. Her blood heated at the tantalizing memory, and her body
thrummed with a fresh wave of desire.
Nothing had changed. She wanted him just
as much now as she’d wanted him then. If not more.
Without warning, the missing service elevator
arrived on the lobby floor with a rusty chime. As the metal doors clanged open,
Rebecca rose to her feet.
Vince followed more slowly, never taking his eyes
off hers.
“I don’t work until Tuesday,” she heard
herself telling him.
His eyes darkened. “I can’t wait that long to
see you again.”
    Rebecca’s mouth went dry.
As she bent to pick up the box, Vince beat
her to it, lifting it easily into his arms and stepping into the waiting
elevator. Rebecca didn’t ask any questions, just followed him inside and pushed
the ninth-floor button.
As the ancient elevator began its sluggish
ascent, they stared at each other from opposite corners of the freight-capacity
cab. Keeping Rebecca trapped in the smoldering heat of his gaze, Vince lowered
the box to the floor.
Rebecca watched, with a heightened sense of
anticipation, as he
