motioning for her to keep quiet.
“I’m sorry Syd, that’s a shitty idea. And for him to try to guilt you into that, it’s crap and you know it. The tabloids say a lot of stuff that’s not true, about both of you. He needs to get a grip on reality and not let other people’s twisted views dictate what you do in your private life.” Leah rants, her hands gesturing wildly as she fights to keep her voice down.
“Shhh h.” I narrow my eyes at Leah. “He’s going to hear you, and he’s going to be hung over. Trust me, it’s not going to be pretty. You said you would be here for me and you’re getting all judgy.”
“I can’t help it Syd! This is bullshit. I can’t listen to this, it’s insanity.” Leah stands up and starts to walk down the hall toward the front door.
“Leah,” I call out to her, too tired to get up and chase her.
She whirls around and storms back to the table, getting in my face. “If it were anyone but Adam, would he be acting like this?”
“I… I don’t know,” I answer, surprised by her question. “He hates him, Leah. There’s history there that we don’t know about. I hurt him yesterday.”
Leah’s angry expression melts away and she calms down some. “Syd, whatever idiotic crap those two have going on, it’s no reason to change the fact that you don’t need to tell the media anything. If he wants Adam to back off, then just tell Adam you’re engaged. He won’t say anything to the press. Or Drew could grow up and stop the petty jealousy. It’s his choice.” She walks back toward the door. “Call me after you talk to him.”
I hear the door close behind her and bury my head in my hands.
    I really need a run.
I toss the empty cup of coffee and quietly head into the bedroom. Drew is in the exact position I left him in last night, rumpled clothes and all. I slip into the closet and put on my running shorts and tank and tie up my shoes.
Sneaking past Drew’s sleeping form I duck into my office and scribble out a quick note, letting him know that I’m running and will be back soon. I head back to the bedroom and place the note on the bedside table just as Drew wakes up.
“Hey,” I say lamely, not knowing what else to do.
Drew squeezes his eyes shut and makes a face.
Good. I hope he’s really hung over.
“I was g oing to go for a run, unless…unless you’d rather I didn’t.” If it’s just going to piss him off, I’d rather stay here and talk about all this shit now.
“Go ahead, but take one of the guys with you,” he says without looking at me. “I have a meeting in a few hours anyway. I’ll just go home and get some work done.” He starts to get up and winces, clearly feeling the effects of his overindulgence.
Anger courses through my veins. He doesn’t even want to talk about it? He’s trying to avoid me. My anger is quickly replaced by fear. Fear that he’s so upset that he doesn’t want me anymore.
“ No. We’re going to discuss this.” I sit on the bed next to him and cross my arms.
“I’m not in the mood Sydney,” Drew answers, clutching his temples as he sits up.
“I’ll get you some water.” I get up and fetch him a bottle of water and two ibuprofen. I head back to the bedroom, deciding to bring his cup of coffee to him as well. “Here.” I hand him the pills and the water.
I watch Drew throw the tablets into his mouth and drink half of the bottle of water. He stops, then drinks the rest, placing the empty container on the nightstand.
“Village Coffee Bar?” he asks as he picks up the cup of coffee and takes a sip.
“Leah was here .” He presses his lips together as if this news is disturbing to him in some way. “I didn’t want to leave you alone to get coffee so I asked her to bring some over.” I stare at him expectantly. There’s no way we’re not doing this.
“I’m really not in the mood for this right now,” Drew says again, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Well too bad. I wasn’t in the mood
