“Are you planning on running again?” he asked, one eyebrow raised.
Which was right about the point she realized he was naked.

Riley let a lazy grin crawl over his face at her slight intake of breath and the little look along his body before she snapped her gaze back to his face. She really was new to wolves if she hadn’t known he wasn’t likely to be clothed after shifting.
Totally comfortable with his nakedness, he lifted his free arm and stretched it out over his head. He had a good body, worked at it as both a man and wolf, and the sudden flush across her cheeks told him that she’d noticed as well. Good. He wanted her to notice. He liked the shy little look she graced him with.
“Look all you like,” he offered, motioning toward himself. “Never seen a wolf before?”
She locked her gaze onto him. Fire burned in her stormy eyes. “Yes. I shot one, remember?”
“You had a reason.” Riley shrugged and rolled to his feet. “Wolves can be assholes. Particularly young ones. Kev’s got a lot of bitten wolves in his pack. They can be problematic.”
He watched her carefully as he stalked toward her. He’d missed it when he’d first seen her, his priority getting Jenna and her partner in crime in the van, but she was lovely. Masses of dark hair cascaded about her shoulders framing a small, heart-shaped face, dominated by large gray eyes. Her nose was little more than a button and she had small, but perfectly shaped lips. Lips she was currently mangling with her teeth. As soon as she saw him looking, she stopped.
“So, does that mean I’m not in trouble?” She finally asked, looking up to meet his eyes. “You guys haven’t brought me out here to bury me in a shallow grave?”
He took another step forward, every instinct he had, human and wolf, reacting to the flash of vulnerability in her eyes. As soon as it appeared, though, it was gone, her armor back around herself. Tough cop mode.
He could see her as a cop. Kicking ass and taking names. But it didn’t matter, he’d seen her fear, smelled it on her skin and it drove all his alpha responses into high gear. Some people got it wrong, thought being an alpha was all about being the boss, being in charge and snarly.
Well, some of it was about dominance, it was just who they were…and some alphas were assholes who abused their power and position. But when push came to shove, an alpha had as much, if not more, responsibility as power. Their job was to protect as well as take charge, and holy hell, did he want to protect this tiny scrap of a woman with everything he had.
“Why on earth would we want to do that, darlin’?” He eased closer, keeping his movements slow so he wouldn’t startle her. She didn’t step away, just tilted her head back so she could keep eye contact. His fingertips grazed her waist, then slid around her back to pull her toward him. “You might be one of us. Regardless, we don’t kill randomly. We’re not the monsters books and films make us out to be.”
Her lips parted, her eyes darkening and he couldn’t help leaning in to inhale her scent, holding it deeply in his lungs. His wolf rumbled with approval, picking up the subtle notes beneath the smell of woman, perfume, and shower gel. The scent of an awakening wolf. A powerful one, if the reaction of his own beast was anything to go by. His body stirred too, cock hard and aching in an instant.
“Make that definitely one of us.” He smiled down at her. “Sorry darlin’, you got a rough month ahead of you.”
She blinked and then shook her head, a stubborn expression on her face. “Definitely one of you? No. Not happening. I took my pills religiously before it happened, there would be cumulative coverage.”
He barked out a laugh. “Sorry, doll. It doesn’t work like that. Like getting a bun in the oven, one time’s all you need. Come on, my truck’s this way.”
“Yeah? You’re planning to walk back?” She motioned toward him, carefully
