Desire Awakened (Aaron's Kiss #13)
because she can no longer get what she needs from others.
Do you understand what I’m saying to you? Lizzy is just enough
vampire that now that she’s bonded with you, she’ll not be able to
feed from anyone else and she’ll die.”
He felt a surge of anger when he thought of
the “others,” but realized what the woman had said. Of course Lizzy
was a vampire. And he was the king of the world. Without saying a
word, he disconnected the call and went into his building. He had
more important things to do than talk to an insane person. It was
nearly ten that night before he left his office.
When he reached his car, a man leapt out in
front of him. Before he could move, Logan was doubled over in pain
from something hitting him in the gut. He tried to stand, but
another man grabbed him from behind and held him as he was hit with
a bat. He felt his rib break and the air rush from his body. They
told him he was going to die, and so would his family if he didn’t
back off on the sale of the Lacer Building downtown.
Then, just as suddenly as it started, he was
freed and fell to the ground. Dropping his head to lean against the
ground because he was seeing things blur before him, he lay down
and closed his eyes.
    “Can you stand?”
He tried to, but couldn’t. Then Lizzy was
helping him up.
“Come on, I’ll take you to your house. Where
do you live?”
He told her and must have blacked out,
because the next thing he knew, he was lying on his bed. He mumbled
a thank you and suddenly had to get up. He felt the urge to throw
up as she helped him to the bathroom.
“Yeah, that’ll happen only the first time.
After that, it’ll be better.” Logan looked up at her. “You know
that those men were going to kill you, right? Do you know why?”
“None of your business. I’m fine now. I’d
like it if you left.” She laughed, and he glared at her as he tried
to make his way back to his bed. “I’m serious. I’d very much like
it if you stayed away from me and mine.”
    “I can’t.”
He started to tell her she’d fucking better
when she touched his forehead and said “sleep.” Then a black void
crushed over him.

Chapter 4

Lizzy tried to sleep in the chair in his
room, but couldn’t get comfortable. It was a chair, not a bed, and
she loved her own bed. She looked at the one the idiot she’d saved
was sleeping in. She wanted to crawl in there with him. Instead,
she got up and left the room.
There was a maid in the hall who was trying
to stuff a vase into her purse. She dropped the vase on the floor
in front of Lizzy as she walked out.
“I’m pretty sure that’s not yours,” Lizzy
said. The maid looked at the room behind Lizzy, and she let her
think what she wanted. Lizzy crossed her arms over her chest and
reached out and touched the woman’s mind. This wasn’t the first
thing the maid had stolen from Logan, only the least expensive item
in a long list of things over the past several weeks she’d been
working for him.
“He’ll never know if you don’t tell him.”
The maid reached into her pocket and pulled out a gun. “Or maybe it
would be best if you were not around to tell him what you think you
saw?”
Lizzy was tired and just wanted to go back
to the castle. Not really. What she really wanted to do was to go
into the bedroom again and see if sex in the bed was anything like
in the elevator. She had a feeling it wouldn’t be. It would be
phenomenal. Instead, she reached deeper into the woman’s mind and
seized it.
Within ten minutes, Melissa, the maid,
handed over the gun. Lizzy also learned the name of the pawn shop
and a list of things she’d taken.
“You’ll get your big butt home now and bring
back everything you stole from this house. And you’ll do it
tonight. If their things aren’t back here by the time the sun
rises, I’m going to put you into a world of hurt. And you so don’t
want to fuck with me tonight.” Melissa nodded and turned to
leave.
    Lizzy wanted a shower,
