Josh, who she grew up with, smiled a little, before gesturing for them to the alpha house. Connor took hold of her hand tightly, completely in Beta mode, assessing every single one of the males, his muscles taut ready for action, eyes scanning constantly. He was taller than most of them and his menacing look alone should make the shifters think twice before attacking. Thank god she had his support, because right now her legs felt like jelly and her wolf was being very quiet, cautious.
The alpha house had the usual stench of lust and sex, making her want to vomit not only at the olfactory memory but the stink invading her nostrils right now. She knew Connor had picked this up way before she did, his arm had snaked around her waist pulling her tight against him.
“In here Lizzy, he’s waiting. And who are you with?” Josh asked.
    “Her mate” Connor growled.
Josh assessed the male shifter before him before opening the door to the main living area. Connor stopped Lizzy going forward, taking one step into the room, to assess the man that was once her alpha. As a Beta his nature was to conform to the alpha, but this one in particular stank of evil, his essence bitter and raw. Besides, Marcus was his Alpha. The smug bastard smiled as Lizzy stepped behind him. Greying around the temples, heartless brown eyes, exaggerated by a long scar from temple to cheek. Connor did not give a shit about the alpha vibes he was putting out, his concern was Lizzy right now. Her small hand gripped the back of his shirt.
The alpha stood, opening his arms in welcome.
“Lizzy, it has been a long time, we were worried about you”
Connor could feel her hand tighten on his shirt before she stepped around him to face her old alpha.
Lizzy felt sick. Like really sick, the kind you get when your mouth goes dry, your palms become sweaty and your breathing speeds up. The only strength she gained at this moment in time was keeping herself upright against Connor. But as she set eyes on the man she used to call Alpha, she knew her life had changed the moment she left Oakfield. Steeling herself she stepped around Connor.
“Thank you for agreeing to see me Lawson”
Connor stepped close to Lizzy, his hand resting on the small of her back, he needed to be close, a ripple of anger had just glided off the alpha. His enforcers, all fuckin five of them shifted from foot to foot. Connor had noticed on the walk in that the pack houses were run down, some looked abandoned. He had not scented any other males other than the five that they walked in with, which had him thinking that the pack was falling apart, maybe some had decided to find a more receptive alpha.
The alpha kept his eyes on her, a smile spread across his face.
“Lawson? I am your alpha Lizzy, so why would you call me by my first name, know your place she wolf”
Connor pushed Lizzy behind him, he was so pissed at this shit head, his wolf was just waiting to tear him to shreds.
“Lizzy is no longer a member of the Oakfield pack and as such does not need to address you as her alpha.”
Lawson stepped in front of them, arms folded in front of him. He tried to stare down Connor but where his mate was concerned they could bring on ten of the bastards and he would not let him win.
    “And you would be?”
    “Connor, her mate” he snarled.
Lawson chuckled, before turning and snapping his fingers. Three very submissive females entered the room, they were thin, no expression, eyes fixed on Lawson.
“Now beta, power as an alpha gives me three mates and many of the moon, as do my enforcers. Lizzy knew her place when she was here, besides she was due to be mated to my son Oliver”
Lizzy had enough. The testosterone in here was suffocating. Moving around a dangerously quiet Connor, she addressed Lawson.
“I had no intention of mating with your son, you wanted someone to strengthen your line with my gift! Then that fuckin seer bound my wolf. That is the reason I am here, where is
