it’s a movie,” Connor continued to pace but it didn’t really seem that he was watching the film too closely.
“Why are you watching Notting Hill ?”
“For research, it says right here that Hugh Grant’s character is a ‘normal guy’ I’m doing background research.”
“Holy shit,” Émeric sat into the leather club chair. “You are…you are… who are you?”
“Émeric, I don’t have time for this. I have another date tomorrow night at seven and I have to be ready.”
    “Seven in the morning?”
“Of course not,” Connor gave his brother a scathing look.
“Your date isn’t until seven tomorrow evening and you think you need to start preparing to be ‘normal’ now?” Émeric stared at his brother who didn’t even bother to answer.
“Madeline is making us snacks and coffee, she thought it might help.”
“Why is it that you negotiate a five hundred million dollar deal without the slightest murmur of trepidation, but the moment you leave a date with this girl you are thrown into the throes of anxiety?”
“Are you going to help me or sit around narrating what I already know is going on?”
Émeric laughed, “You seriously look like you’re a poor man who needs to find a billion dollars by tomorrow, not a rich man who needs to look like he’s poor.”
    “Not poor…just average.”
Connor stopped mid stride. He looked at his brother and began a slight smile too, “I’m being absurd. I don’t know why I’m so nervous I just want everything to go well.”
“It will, she likes you, we already know that.”
The two men sat down across from each other.
“What do I do?” Connor asked.
“Well—” they were interrupted as Madeline walked in with a cheese, bread, and prosciutto plate, with a French press and cups balancing out the weight on the other end.
“Good, I’m glad you’re back. We were just beginning to brainstorm.”
Connor gestured for her to sit down. Émeric held more of a distance with the people he hired to “work for him,” but he’d grown used to Connor’s easy relationship with Madeline.
“So, besides watching Notting Hill what have you done?” Émeric asked.
“Nothing, I’ve been waiting for you.” Connor said this as if it should be completely obvious.
“Madeline do you have any thoughts?” Émeric turned to her.
“I can purchase a car with cash in the morning. We should look online for a suitable house, or condo, or something, we’ll need furniture, some clothes…and I guess the normal sort of thing a young man would have around the house.”
“Right,” Émeric sighed. “So I guess you are the purchaser and I am the style consultant?”
