morning.”
“Why do you need me to go on this trip with you?”
“I’m meeting with some Japanese delegates of a resort I’m interested in purchasing. As my wife you will accompany me on this and all future business trips.”
“All future trips? I don’t think so. Just where do you get off telling me what to do?”
“The day we married.”
She laughed at his absurd words. If he thought she’d bow down to him, then he didn’t know her very well at all.
“Well think again, because I’m not going with you. Show me a very good reason why I should disrupt my life to accompany you on business trips.” She took a deep breath, “Better yet, show me some proof of our marriage and then I’ll consider it. Until then the answer is no.”
“I don’t need to show you proof. My word is the truth and I think you will come with me, Jasmine.”
“You’re unbelievable. My word is the truth ,” She mimicked shaking her head in disbelief. “It’s absurd I should take anything you say seriously. What makes you so sure I’ll accede to your command?”
“If you don’t want to see your father in financial trouble, you’ll be there.” He turned to face the window again, the breadth of his shoulders obscuring part of the view.
“What exactly do you mean my father will be in financial trouble? Anderson’s are in a very good financial position.”
“Yes the hotels are running at a profit but they were used as collateral so your father could obtain the finance to enter into the joint venture with Regents.”
“I’m afraid I still don’t understand what this has to do with you and me and our business trip?”
He left his stance at the window and walked towards her. Power exuded from his every pore and she caught her breath as he stopped inches from her. Her skin tingled as he feathered his hand down her cheek. Her mind focussed on the heat his hand was generating.
“I’m in a position to be able to call in your father’s loan, cara .”
“How can you do that, you’re only his business partner.”
“I’m more than that, Jasmine.” He paused before laying his cards on the table. “Your father organised his loan through a merchant bank. A merchant bank which happens to be a subsidiary of Morelli Corporation. I can call in his loan anytime I want.”
She felt the colour leech from her face as his words penetrated her hazy mind.
“You can’t do that,” she whispered.
“Watch me. The only thing that will stop me from calling it in will be for you to accompany me on this trip.”
“But that’s blackmail.”
“Call it what you will, but the choice is yours. Either you come with me and your father doesn’t suffer any undue financial stress. Or you don’t and your father ends up bankrupt. What’s it to be?”
“I will not stand here and be dictated to by you. I told you last night no one, and I repeat no one, tells me what to do. Now get out.”
“You really don’t want me walking out that door.”
“Oh yes I do.” She placed her hands on her hips. “Make sure you close the door behind you.”
“You shouldn’t test me Jasmine, the consequences of your actions right now will affect you and your father’s future.”
“Issuing threats again are you? I believe I asked you to leave.”
“You don’t want me to leave because by the time I get to the street the loan will be called in and your father will be on his way to being ruined.”
She shivered at the power behind his words. But she was determined not to let him see how his words affected her.
“What has my father ever done to you for you to act this way?”
“Your father has done plenty to me and you know it. I have the power to make it impossible for him to ever open another hotel in this town. I can also make it unbelievably hard for you to get gainful employment.”
She’d done some research this morning and found that Morelli Corporation was a billion dollar company with many different aspects to it structure. Even
