loping off into the woods, stopping occasionally to chase a field mouse or deer, or any other prey bold enough not to hide when he and Eleana came around.
With his new she-wolf close behind him, Gregor ran through fields and streams, often stopping to make sure he hadn’t lost Eleana to the enchantment of the forest. They loped along until their tongues lolled out of the sides of their mouths and they were parched with thirst. Then they rested by a tiny stream, lapping at the water and enjoying each other’s company. Gregor glanced up at the sky and was saddened to see the moon low as morning approached.
They both changed back into their human forms. Gregor recognized where they were. The welcome sign sat to their left and the parking lot where his bike was parked wasn’t far off. They made their way back hand in hand.
Standing next to the motorcycle, Eleana playfully pulled at his beard. “Why do you grow this thing so long?” she asked. “It makes you look mean.”
“Maybe I want people to think that.”
“You don’t strike me as the kind of man who gives a crap what anyone thinks,” she said.
Gregor replied with a sinful kiss. “You’re beautiful, Eleana.”
She smiled and ran her tongue along her newly enlarged canines. “Why thank you, kind sir,” she said with a curtsy. “You know, that was the most fun I’ve ever had on a date.”
Gregor smiled. He liked her humor. It had been so long since anyone had been able to amuse him. “I’m pleased.”
She chewed her lip, her eyes twinkling with young mischief. “So how old are you?”
    “About ten thousand years old.”
Eleana stared at him stunned. “You’re joking.”
    “No, I’m not.”
    “That’s really…um, wow.”
He toyed with a lock of her hair. “Are you thinking I’m too old for you?”
“Well,” she said, then wrapped her arms around him and kissed him on the neck. “Maybe just a little.” She grabbed his beard again and pulled him down to kiss her. Their tongues caressed each other’s for a few hot moments. Then she added, “Why don’t we stay out here all day? We can run around, hunt things, make love, hunt things, run around…”
Gregor leaned his head back and laughed. “I would love to, my beauty, but there are two other men in our pack who are desperate to meet you.”
Eleana’s lovely brow wrinkled with worry. “What if they don’t like me?”
“They will, I know they will. You’re everything we’ve been hoping for. I think all three of us fell in love with you that day you held us at bay with a crowbar. And now, you’re one of us, our new chance at life and our savior. You are our Eve, Eleana.”
“I’m very flattered but it’s a lot to take in,” she said.
“That’s because you’re thinking too much. Just come back with me. Meet the others, and then we’ll see how you feel after that.”
“I shouldn’t trust you,” she said with an impish grin. “My old pack mates told me you were a dangerous man. Some even implied you were the original Big Bad Wolf.”
“I’m afraid there’s a lot of bad blood between me and them. Surely you don’t believe any of that nonsense.”
“But what about my old pack? Am I never to see them again? Are they going to become my enemies now?” she asked.
Gregor hadn’t thought of that. He’d just assumed she would be like the rest of the Dire Wolves and consider them dangerous rivals. But even though her old pack had hidden the truth about what she was, they were still the only family she’d ever known. He couldn’t expect her to abandon them completely.
“No,” he said carefully. “I don’t expect you to be their enemy, but clearly this issue will have to be resolved by a meeting between our two packs. Perhaps we’ll eventually come to an understanding.”
Eleana rubbed the back of her neck. Then she said, “Okay, I’ll go back and meet the other two Dire Wolves but after I do, I want time alone so I can speak to Steven in private.
