that?”
Reed returned then. “We’re not going to finish this game, are we?”
Both Evie and Jackson ignored him. Evie ran her hands over Jackson’s chest, over his broad shoulders and slid them into the hair at the nape of his neck. With an insistent tug, she pulled him forward until their lips touched. His hands slid over her hips to grip her waist. It was a soft kiss at first, just the slight brushing of her lips against his, but Evie grew bolder. She knew that everyone was looking, but she simply didn’t care. Opening her lips over his, she deepened the kiss, sliding her tongue seductively over his bottom lip. She didn’t rush or hurry. She kissed him slowly, languorously, letting the heat build between them. His hands slid from her waist, down to cup her ass and she smiled against his mouth before breaking the kiss.
“You really walked in here without a stitch on under that skirt, didn’t you?” he said incredulously.
    “Dance with me,” she said.
He didn’t need to be asked twice. Tucking her hand into his, he pulled her towards the dance floor just as an old Otis Redding song came on the ancient jukebox. He pulled her into his arms. Hip to hip and chest to chest, he led her around the dance floor in a slow, seductive rhythm. Their bodies moved in perfect unison as they swayed to the music. When the song ended, Evie took Jackson’s hand and walked towards the door. If anyone at the bar questioned whether or not they were already lovers, no one doubted that they would be before the night was through.
Outside in the night air, Jackson took a deep breath to steady himself. He hadn’t really expected Evie to be that bold. Maybe in his wildest fantasies, he’d thought about it. The reality was far better than anything he could have imagined. Of course, there would be hell to pay the next day, but it was well worth it. “Let’s take my truck. I’ll bring you back for your car in the morning,” he said.
“Would that have anything to do with that bench seat you have?”
It did. It also had something to do with the sleeping bags in the bed of the truck and the fact that he had no intention of taking her to his house. “Let’s just say that I have a couple of surprises in store for you.”
Evie laughed, “I like the sound of that.”
Once in the truck, Jackson drove them far out of town, pulling the truck off the road and into the middle of a field. The farm had been fallow for years, so he had no concerns about being shot for trespassing. Climbing out of the truck, he turned and helped Evie. “Those shoes are sexy as hell, but you’re going to break your neck in them.”
“Well, truthfully, I hadn’t really planned on being vertical when I wore them.”
“Fuck, you’re killing me,” he groaned as he lowered the tailgate. Rather than have her climb up, he closed his hands about her waist and lifted her into the truck bed. “Now scoot back, and please try not to wreck the bed with those lethal heels.”
“You’re worried about the paint job on your truck bed. Seriously?”
He shrugged, “I love my truck.” Climbing into the truck bed beside her, Jackson spread out the sleeping bags, forming a thick pallet for them to lay on. He also produced two candles in silver pails. While it looked romantic, they served a far more practical purpose. He wanted Evie naked under the stars, but he didn’t want either of them to suffer a million mosquito bites in the process. Lighting the citronella candles, he placed them on the tailgate. “Now, strip.”
It didn’t even dawn on her to protest at the autocratic command since it meshed perfectly with her own desires. She wanted nothing more than to feel his hands on her bare skin. Tugging the white tank top over her head, she revealed the sheer, lacy bra beneath. With the moon and stars shining brightly above, she knew Jackson could see her clearly. Even in the dim light, she could see his eyes darken with desire. Reaching behind her, Evie unhooked
