Wicked Desires
him in one intense final
release.

    Sunlight streamed through
the window by the time Odessa finally rolled over, reaching for
William. Only he wasn't there. The sheets weren't even warm where
he'd lain. That instantly brought her back to her
senses.
    "Will," she called. "Where are
you?"
    When he didn't respond a
wave of panic sent her heart to racing and the room to spinning. He
couldn't be gone, not after the incredible night they had shared.
She pulled herself together to search the bathroom and the empty
sitting area before flinging open the French doors to the
balcony.
    "Will!" she shrilled over and
over.
    One of the other guests
blasted a radio in a futile attempt to drown out her wails. Not
that it mattered. Nothing mattered without Will. Odessa screamed
until her throat ached. Only then did did her screams turn to sobs
as she sank to her knees floored by what had once been one of her
favorite songs.
"Have another little piece of my
heart, baby," she sang along with Janice Joplin. "You know you've
got it if it makes you feel good."
    Odessa waiting until the
song ended and then stood to slam the French doors. It was then she
noticed Will's shirt on the floor beside the bed. She slipped on
the shirt, slowing fastening each button. His lingering scent
calmed her in a weird way.
Of course it had all been
too good to have been real.
Except she had his shirt and when she
caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror over the vanity she saw
the fresh bite marks trailing down her neck. It hadn't been just a
dream. She had been able to conjure her beloved if only for one
night.
    Odessa popped the lid on
the Tupperware bowl knowing what she'd find. William's heart. She
took her athame and cut away a sliver, just a tiny morsel. She knew
she couldn't afford to lose what was left of him all at once. Then
she swallowed the tiny little piece of his heart, chasing it with a
shot of Absinthe.
Despite the pain, it had all been
worth it to have one more night in Will's arms. If she could do it
once, Odessa knew that when the timing was right. When the moon and
stars once again aligned in perfect balance. When the Goddess
smiled down upon their union. Then she would be able to summon her
beloved again.
Until then, she would just have to
seek solstice in La Fée Verte.
    She raised a crystal goblet
of the green liquor in a toast. "My beloved, not even in death do
thou part."

DESIRE

    It was all
Billy could do to stand there in the shower letting the scalding
water pelt his back. Nothing was gonna wash away the stench of what
he had done. Screwing around with his own sister. Loving his sister
in a way that was much more than brotherly. Of all the women in the
entire world, why did it have to turn out that Lizzie was his
sister?
    The self-hatred
gnawed into his gut, hurting him worse than any physical blow that
Paul could have dealt. He was such a damn coward that he had ran
away from Lizzie after only last night promising never to leave her
again.
Billy just couldn’t do it. He could not go back to that hotel
room and tell her he'd never be able to make love to her
again. What kind of sick motherfucker
wants to marry his own sister?
    Minnesota was
not going to be enough distance between them. He was going to have
to get on the line with Hasegawa and beg the man to let him come
back to Japan for good. Maybe if he stayed halfway across the world
he would somehow get on with what was left of his life. He was
still going to love her, but at least he wouldn’t be tempted to act
on it.
    God help him,
he hated his mother. He hated her for fucking Paul Bryson and he
hated her for having him. Hate wasn’t a strong enough word for his
feelings towards Paul. Some father he was, letting Pap take him
back to that trailer in Texas when Paul could have given him
anything in this whole world he could have ever wanted or needed.
