late.”
He nudged her up a couple of steps. “Yes, so get a move on. The sooner we’re there, the sooner we can get Alex into bed. Don’t argue. Go. Tonight we stay together—just the three of us.”

Chapter Four

Kiona stepped out of the shower with her mind spinning. She couldn’t believe she’d agreed with Ridge’s plan to go to his house. They had driven down to take the ferry over to Seattle and then the few miles to his house. She had flown here with the intention of going back home, to keep her distance from Ridge, and here she was in his house.
Little furniture decorated the place, and only Alex’s and Ridge’s bedrooms had beds. Thinking about it, she bit her lip and swiped a hand over the mirror. She had two choices—sleep with Alex in his twin size bed or with Ridge in his. At least at Ridge’s parents’ house Alex’s bed was a full size. Still, even as she thought about it, she knew what she would do.
    “I definitely can’t forgive him…can I?”
A knock on the door made her jump. “Hey, you okay in there, baby?”
“I’m fine.” Why did he have to keep calling her baby and honey? She shut her eyes, leaned heavily on the sink, and searched for the resolve she had arrived with. The thing didn’t exist, or it lay buried beneath the memory of her ex-husband’s touch, of his lips slanted above hers.
When she could delay no longer, she left the bathroom. She’d selected the one in the hall rather than inside Ridge’s bedroom and took her time moving along the passage. Ridge had tucked Alex into bed, and she visited his room to give him a kiss. On her way to the other side of the house’s upper floor, she passed another room, and it looked like there were at least two more. Ridge could raise an entire family here. A pang stirred her heart, and she pushed those thoughts aside.
Just as she reached his room, something Ridge said came to mind. He mentioned that he’d taken time off work to spend time with Alex and her .  “Did you arrange for my brother to take Nana to Hawaii for Christmas?”
He froze where he stood, and she knew it was true. He had removed his shirt, and his bare chest did things to her she’d rather not feel. Looking away from the solid pecs proved impossible, especially with the smooth skin displaying a hint of a tan leftover from the summer this late in the year.
    “I did.”
“Why did you do that, Ridge? Sometimes I just don’t get you. We agreed that—”
“ You agreed, Kiona.” He crossed the room toward her, his long legs eating up the space in a couple strides. She stumbled backward, but he stopped her from escaping to the hallway. His strong, yet gentle touch undid her, and she lowered her gaze from his face. That meant nothing because the man’s six-pack made her think of how she used to lick it with delight. Ridge didn’t force her to look up at him. He probably knew she lusted over his body and thought it would help his cause. “I love you. I always have, and I always will. I signed those papers because you threatened me with everything you could. I didn’t agree because I wanted to.”
    “But I thought…”
“Look if it’s my pride you want, you can have it.” He released her and spread his arms wide. “When you accused me of cheating with Anne Marie, what did I say?”
She frowned. “I hardly think that old argument matters now.”
“What did I say?” he insisted.
“Well you certainly didn’t deny it. That’s for sure. You spent more and more time away from us, sometimes overnight, always with the excuse that you were working. Yet, you had time for Anne Marie, and you took her with you to San Diego without telling me. When she answered your cell phone after midnight, I’d had enough. And what did you say to me? You said I needed to trust you. Well sorry, Mr. Foster, I was fresh out, and I resent you bringing all this up again!”
He reached for her, but she moved. “I think I should go home and take Alex with me now that
