breath. You are a part of me now,” Glen told her.
“I guess we have to untangle ourselves and check out of this room and get back to the real world,” She sighed, as she stretched her arms out. Although this was the last thing she wanted to do, she got up, and dressed.
When were ready, they left the room. They already checked-out, and walked in the parking garage, headed towards the jeep, when they heard the acceleration of a car engine. It was the black SUV, and it headed straight for them.
Glen pushed Sher between two cars, and fell on top of her, “Stay down,” He shouted, as he pulled his gun from the waistband of his jeans. Cautiously, he peered around the car and looked down the blacktop. The car stopped about fifty yards up with the driver’s side door opened. Slowly Glen walked up, and looked inside. There was no one there. As the significance of the empty cab registered in his brain, he heard a scream. It was Sher. He never should’ve left her between those two cars. He should’ve stayed with her.
He saw where she stood. Behind her was a man with a gun in his hand, and he pointed it directly at Sher’s temple.
“Stay back or she’s dead”. It was the same gravelly voice Sher heard in her sleep, and the same voice from behind her deli.
The man was medium built with longish black hair. He had a slight scar on his left cheek that made him look very sinister.
“Let her go. You don’t want to do this,” Glen prayed that would work with no one getting hurt. But if he had to shot the guy to save Sher, he wouldn’t hesitate.
“The Boss wants what your husband gave you. And he wants it now,” The man didn’t give up.
Glen saw Sher’s face drained of most her color. She was so pale. Glen’s first thought was of her passed out any second. He couldn’t let anything happen to her, now that they knew how much the other cared. He won’t lose her now. Not ever again.
“My ex -husband. And he didn’t give me anything. I don’t know what it is you want. How can I give you something, when I don’t know what it is?” Sher tried to keep her wits about her, but felt faint at the same time. She never fainted. But she had never been in any type of situation as this one.
She saw Glen was not one who gave up. He was ready to shoot, as soon as he had a clear shot. She’d have to do something. She had to distract this thug, but how? She’s seen on TV many times, how someone got loose from an attacker. If she just remembered how to do it right.
Glen carefully watched Sher’s facial expressions. He knew she was going to act, and he’d be ready.
She dropped down, as if she fainted, and brought her elbow back at the same time. Her aim was a little off, but it was enough that her attacker pushed her forward, away from him. That’s when Glen shot. The shots fired, just as Sher fell on top of Glen. He was afraid he shot her instead of the thug.
“Sher, Honey, are you ok? Please open your eyes. Talk to me,” Glen panicked.
Glen looked up to see the guy took off, but red drops had fallen on the pavement. Good, he hit the guy, but apparently not bad enough. A moment later, he heard an engine start and it peeled out of the parking garage. He stood up and made sure the guy was truly gone. The abandoned vehicle was gone when he checked. He pulled his phone from his jacket pocket, he dialed 911.
After he shoved his phone back in his pocket, he held Sher’s hand. Glen begged her to wake up. He was elated when he finally saw her eyes flutter, and then opened.
“Thank God. Are you alright? Where does it hurt?”Glen checked her for wounds as he waited for her to speak.
“I’m fine. I think I fainted. I never faint. Did we get him?” As she spoke, she nervously glanced all around.
“He’s gone, but he’s injured. Stay there, the paramedics will be here in a second,” He heard the sirens as they got
