gems arrowed across the upper back and would show off his broad shoulders to perfection.
Royal colors. Keneese looked at the clothes and butterflies took off in her stomach. Luken walked into the bedroom looking more royal than the family colors.
She looked at her reflection in a nearby mirror. “I can’t do this. I’m not royalty. What if I mess the whole ceremony up? We just met yesterday. Don’t royal weddings take months or years to prepare?”
He strode to her and wrapped her in his embrace. “You’re my natural mate. You’ll do fine. This is not a wedding, it’s a claiming ceremony. That’s why it can happen so quickly. Your part is to accept the claiming necklace I put on you and as a sign that I belong to you, you’ll put a matching one on me. Stop worrying, you’ll do fine. It’s time to get dressed and head to the palace.” He kissed her gently and then pulled her shirt off.
His eyes changed for a moment when he looked at her breasts. She held her breath, wondering if he’d touch her. His touch let a torch in her that she hoped never went out.
“Get dressed before I embarrass us by showing up late and smelling strongly of sex. As it is, everyone is going to scent our recent breeding.” Turning, Luken headed to his clothes, which were laid out on the other side of the bed.
When his words fully sank in, she stared at him in horror. “Should we go take another shower?” Fiery embarrassment heated her cheeks. “How good is a VisOrrentian’s sense of smell?”
A laugh rumbled up from his chest. “Excellent. Don’t worry, little princess. Even though we are short on females we know the scent of arousal and breeding. It’s a natural thing and nothing to be ashamed of. I just don’t want our breeding scent so strong that people want to leave the claiming early so they can go home to relieve themselves. Our scent is light enough right now that it won’t be a big distraction. Hurry up and get dressed. My guards are already here waiting on us.”

As they dressed, Luken could sense her nerves were causing her trouble. Wanting to calm his beautiful mate, he touched the royal color on the sleeve of her top. “Would you like to hear how our colors came to be?”
After sliding her silky legs into the skirt, she answered, “Yes, I need all the information on your planet I can get.”
“Our planet, princess,” he reminded. Sliding his arms around her, he kissed her neck. “You are so lovely. I want to breed you right now, but I’ll wait.”
“Thank you. I don’t want people to think I stink. Now tell me about the royal colors.” She stepped out of his arms and began brushing her long, dark-blonde hair.
Don’t toss her on the bed and breed her again. Colors, colors . He cleared his throat and shifted his breeding rod to a more comfortable position in his pants. “The dark-silver color is rare so the people of VisOrrenta decided it would be a good color for the royal family to wear.”
A delicate index finger touched her lips briefly. “Can the people wear this color, too?”
“Yes, although most choose not to. The people also decided to pair the silver with turquoise gems that are a sign of strength and wisdom on our planet. The people are strongly against anyone who is not royal wearing the gem or even gem-colored trimming on their clothes. The gems in our claiming necklaces will be an even rarer gem that is dark turquoise with light moonbeams shooting through them. I think you’ll like them.”
“The people here must respect your family to choose your colors and choose not to wear turquoise along with the royal dark silver.” She touched one of the gems and took a calming breath.
“They love and respect us as much as we love and respect them. Those feelings will now be extended to you, delicate princess. It’s time to go. No worries.” He kissed her, but didn’t let his lips linger against her full, soft ones.
