You have been through so much already. I just don’t want to see you hurt again.”
Did Nora really think that he would hurt her? Gazing at the deeply concerned look upon the woman’s face… yes, she did. And normally, due to what Nora had just told her, so would Alice.
The Slayer tribe of the Chaetdorian race were natural born fighters. Killers. Assassins. They were essentially the Chaetdorian army. There was also a tribe that were known as Warriors, but Nora had explained that they were more guards and protectors than anything. It was the Slayers that were the truly deadly ones. And Torq was their leader.
But there was one problem. Alice just couldn’t believe that Torq would ever hurt her. She didn’t know him, had never spoken to him or been alone in his presence, but strangely, she trusted him. She knew that she would be safe.
When the other three women came through the door, being led into the room by two large, identical males – Slayers if what Nora had said about the different coloured markings were true – Alice felt herself sinking down further into her chair. She was not looking forward to this.
When all were seated, Alice expected the two males that had escorted her friends to leave, but they just stood there, their gazes zeroed in on Hannah.
“You can go now,” Jessie snapped. “It’s not like we needed your assistance in the first place.”
With a quick glance at each other, they turned and left the room, but Alice didn’t think they had gone far. There was something about the way they had looked at Hannah that gave her the feeling her friend would be seeing them again.
“So, now that the stalker twins have left, care to explain yourself?” Jessie asked. Her words were harsh, but when she forced her eyes up to meet those her friend’s, Alice could see that she was already forgiven.
“Oh leave her alone, Jess. It’s not her fault she’s a soft touch for a tall, well-muscled, scary-looking alien.”
“I’m not…”
“Oh yes, you are. I saw your face when that hunk came into the room, and I saw your reaction to him back in that alley. Can’t say I blame you either,” Katie giggled, “these aliens are ridiculously hot.”
That they were, but still, Alice felt terrible for keeping her friends here.
“Corr thinks that Torq might be Alice’s mate,” Nora piped in. “Says he’s been acting all strange since the mission that ended with us being brought here.”
Katie and Hannah shrieked in delight. Jessie, on the other hand, changed the direction of the conversation, much to Alice’s delight. She didn’t want to discuss Torq and her strange attraction to him. If what Corr through was true, then why had he ditched her in that cell? And why had she not seen him since she’d made the decision for all of them to stay?
“What mission?”
“Well, have you noticed that some of the males look a little more human than others?” Nora asked, a sparkle in her eye. The woman loved knowing things the rest of them didn’t. “It’s because they have been drinking human blood.”
“What?” they all shrieked.
“They can make themselves appear human by consuming human blood. But, apparently, because they have been doing it for so long, they can’t just give it up without suffering serious withdrawal, so Torq and the other Slayers were sent out to retrieve a group of human volunteers.”
“So there are others here, other humans?” she asked.
“Yes. Fourteen apparently, though I believe their numbers just went up. The girls joined them last night. They have a whole deck of the ship to themselves.”
“Will they expect us to… you know… give up our blood?” Katie asked nervously. Hannah and Jessie looked just as nervous about the answer.
“I don’t think so. They may ask, but if you say no, I doubt they will try and force it.”
They stayed in there for a while, chatting about everything they had seen and learnt since they had woken up in that room. Eventually though,
