got anything else planned, you could go tomorrow. Itâs not far; you can fly there with Camelin.â
âBut I thought you said Iâd be on my own?â
âYou will be once you get to the rock. Camelin can wait for you by the exit.â
Jack let out a long slow breath. At last he would get some answers. He had no idea what might be inside the labyrinth but having come face to face with Velindur, a fire-breathing dragon, and a fearsome Draygull, he thought he was probably better prepared than most to face whatever it might hold. Jackâs thoughts were interrupted by Camelinâs arrival through the patio doors. He swerved round Nora and did a figure of eight before landing gracefully on the back of one of the chairs.
âGlad you could join us,â said Nora. âYou know weâve got a busy afternoon.â
Camelin humphed.
âYouâve got plenty of help now Jack and Elan are back.â
Nora shook her head and frowned.
âI need you to take this bucket and find at least twenty grubs. You know the Dorysk has a healthy appetite.â
âWhy canât Jack do it?â
Elan laughed.
âYouâre the best grub collector â Jack wouldnât have a clue where to look.â
âThatâs true,â said Camelin as he hopped down to the floor and opened his beak for the bucket.
âThanks,â said Jack when Camelin had gone, âI really wouldnât know where to look. Why grubs?â
Nora smiled and passed Jack a selection of cutlery so he could help lay the table.
âItâs the Doryskâs investiture as an officer of the Night Guard later this afternoon. It would be rude not to have his favourite food on the table.â
Jack wrinkled his nose.
âWill they be⦠wriggling?â
Elan laughed.
âJust donât eat the little green parcels. Itâs Noraâs special recipe, but grubs wrapped in mint leaves arenât my idea of a feast either.â
âDoes that mean Iâm invited too?â
âOf course you are,â said Nora. âI did mention it to your grandad but youâd better go back and remind him youâre staying for tea. You can collect your wand and Orin at the same time. Didnât your grandad say anything to you about sleeping here for a couple of nights?â
âNo, but it was so busy this afternoon at the Cricket Club we didnât get a chance to say much at all.â
âHeâs got a really busy week coming up, itâs the local flower show next weekend and heâs got to help set up the marquee. I suggested you might like to stay for a couple of nights this week and the whole of next weekend.â
âThatâll be great, thanks.â
âWhatâll be great?â asked Camelin as he shuffled in with the bucket.
Nora looked inside before replying.
âJackâs coming to stay for a couple of nights.â
âAw great! Can we go out flying?â
âYou can, in fact you can go tomorrow.â
âOn our own, without Elan?â asked Camelin as he winked at Jack.
âYes, without me. Youâll be going over to Falconrock.â
Camelin sighed.
âI had plans.â
âAnd so does Jack,â said Nora.
Jack shrugged his shoulders and tried to give Camelin an apologetic look.
âI need to visit the library.â
âWhatever for, arenât there enough books here?â
Nora frowned.
âThatâs enough. If you donât want to show Jack the way to Falconrock Elan can.â
Camelin raised his head and gave Nora his superior look.
âJack canât transform without me.â
âThat means Iâll be naked!â groaned Jack. âIsnât there a spell I can use so I donât have to wander around without any clothes on?â
Nora nodded.
âItâs not a spell as such; you have to learn how to visualise.â
âVisualise?â asked Jack.
âI can teach you but
