rushed. We need to look .â
â One boutique,â Alesha stated firmly. âI choose, try it on, present plastic, we leave.â
Laceyâs smile was pure imp dressed in steel. âYou think?â
Alesha achieved an expressive eye-roll. âI knew inviting you was asking for trouble.â
âPrecisely why you displayed some sense,â came the airy response. â Chill ,â her friend commanded as they paused outside a small boutique with one model displayed in the window. âLetâs go inspect the merchandise, shall we?â
She uttered an expressive sigh. âI donât thinkââ
âYou donât need to think while Iâm here to advise and guide.â
âThatâs what concerns me.â
The vendeuse greeted them with refined politeness, whereupon Lacey launched into her verbal spiel.
âWhite, of course.â
âIvory,â Alesha corrected.
âFull-length,â Lacey insisted.
âMid-calf.â
âStunning.â
She did the eye-roll thing. âSimple.â
âPerhaps it would help if you tell me something about the venue, the reception, the number of guests,â the vendeuse suggested.
âA civil ceremony held in a private home with two witnesses.â
âAh. I see.â There was a faint click of the fingers as she accurately appraised Aleshaâs slim curves. âI think I can offer you something suitable.â
The design was fine, the colour was not.
âItâs a very pale blush.â
âThank you, but no.â
The second boutique had the perfect gown, Chanelâ¦except it only came in black. Alesha considered, only to be firmly outvoted by Lacey. âYou are not getting married in black .â
âHey, whose wedding is this, anyway?â
âYours, and just because itâs not traditional, doesnât mean we wonât do it right . Agreed?â
Lacey had a point. âCoffee,â Alesha insisted.
âSoon, promise. Letâs go.â
âHeaven forbid⦠where ? I thought we had a one-stop deal.â
Lacey took hold of her arm and led the way to the car.
âGet in and drive.â
âIt had better be good.â
Doing it right was achieved in a beautiful little boutique that sold vintage designer gear. Gorgeous gowns in cream, ivoryâ¦and Alesha sighed as she caught sight of sheer perfection. A slim-fitting gown in layered ivory and pale champagne silk, accented by a fine pin-tucking edged with narrow lace.
âDelicate strappy sandals with killer heels,â Lacey advised. âMinimum jewellery, just diamond ear-studs. Maybe a bracelet.â
Alesha removed the gown, handed it to the sales person, endeavoured not to blink at the price, presented plastic andminutes later walked from the shop with a signature-emblazoned glossy carry-bag.
âStrappy sandals,â Lacey insisted. âThen we get to have coffee. OK?â
âThanks.â She gave her friend an impulsive heartfelt hug. âI couldnât have done this without you.â
A light bubbling laugh emerged as Lacey initiated a high-five gesture. âWho else, when weâve been friends since for ever?â
âSisters in every way but by blood.â There for each other, the first one to call.
It was later as they sat sharing coffee that Lacey adopted a serious expression. âYou so deserve to be happy.â
Alesha smiled. âWisdom over double-shot lattes?â
âLoukas is a good guy.â
She slanted an eyebrow. âAnd you know thisâ¦because?â
âIâve met him, remember? He made a lasting impression.â
Alesha took time to sip her coffee. âThatâs supposed to be reassurance?â
âHeâs hot. Those eyes. That mouth.â Lacey gave a lascivious sigh. âYumâ¦and then some.â
âYum?â she queried with quizzical amusement.
âUh-huh.â
A wicked smile widened her
