Cara’s Latin Quarter Picks
Arènes de Lutèce: 51, rue Monge, 75005 Paris. As a member of the Roman Empire, Lutetia may have been a minor provincial town, but it too had its amphitheatre for bread and circuses. Here it is.
Restaurant La Tour d’Argent: 15, quai de Tournelle, 75005 Paris. A famous restaurant (trying to reinvent itself) with an almost-reasonably-priced business lunch six days a week.
La Rotisserie du Beaujolais: 19, quai de Tournelle, 75005 Paris. Owned by Tour d’Argent, casual, reliable grilled meat and poultry, good value.
Restaurant Le Pré Verre: 8, rue Thénard, 75005 Paris. An imaginative restaurant, South Asian/Southeast Asian/French fusion.
The Maison de la Mutualité: has a good, very old-fashioned restaurant—La Fontaine Saint-Victor, 11, rue Monge, 75005 Paris—open six days a week, but only at lunch.
Brasserie Balzar: 49, rue des Écoles, 75005 Paris. A fine traditional brasserie.
Murder in the Palais Royal (October 1997)
Just as Aimée is about to leave for New York City to follow up on a lead on a man who might be her brother, her fellow detective, René Friant, is wounded by a near-fatal gunshot. Aimée is distraught over René’s condition and horrified to be under suspicion for the attack—police have pegged her as the guilty party. At the same time, a mysterious large sum appears in Leduc Detective’s bank account, and tax authorities descend upon Aimée. It seems someone is impersonating her, someone who wants revenge. But for what?
