he glanced over his shoulder and watched on as the boy ran back towards the village. He tried to get to his feet, but the man-mountain standing in front of him slapped him across the face with an open palm and rendered him unconscious.
When he finally awoke, Asger was greeted by half a dozen familiar faces. None of which he was glad to see.
One young man, a former squire of his father, took a couple of steps forward and placed his hand on Asger’s cheek.
“Look what we have here!” He said gleefully.
The young man’s hair was like straw, and his teeth were as dark as coal. He had the facial features of a rodent, but even rats would have better breath than this creature.
“We thought you to be dead!” He laughed.
Asger turned his head from side-to-side. Off in the distance he could see the village that had become his home, but he could hardly recognize it. Now it was shrouded in a cloud of smoke, and the only light that escaped from the dark cloud were the flames that bore it.
Resigned to his fate, he hoped that he could do some good with his final breath.
    “You found me!”
He had lived four years longer than the gods intended. He was destined to die by his father’s side. He was able to save himself back then, but now he only thought of the villagers that were chained beside him.
“You have no need for these peasants. Leave them. Take me. And do as you will!”
The rodent-like young man laughed and danced like a fool as he rubbed his hands with glee. For most of his life, he had served the royals, but now he was the one wielding all of the power. Or so he thought.
    “Jari, that’s enough.”
The voice was coming from behind Asger. He tried to turn his head, but a hand came from behind and held him in place before he had the chance.
“No more blood needs to be spilt today. Not even the blue-blood of a prince!”
The voice sounded familiar to Asger. It was a voice he once welcomed, and had almost forgot. Now it was bringing back all of the old memories that he had tried to leave behind him when he left his old city.
“Asger, it’s been a long time.”
Torvald. He was once the right-hand of the king, but he had always been much too ambitious to stay by his side. Asger tried to leap towards the man he once considered a friend, but the chains kept him in place.
“Such bravery! A pity you only found it after you fled!”
Torvald dropped to a knee and looked Asger in the eye. He smiled gleefully, reveling in the power he held, and the defiant look that greeted him was only making the moment sweeter.
“Your father would surely be proud. His son, his last son, standing up against us for the family name.”
Asger remained silent. Rage was coursing through his veins. He hated the man his father became, but he was his father’s son nonetheless, and vengeance was now the only thing on his mind.
“You’re family has ruled long enough. You and your ilk have ruled long enough. Now it is our time, and no amount of flames can stop us.”
Confused, Asger looked back towards the city. It was still ablaze. The smell of charred flesh wafted through the air. The screams of terror were still fresh in his mind. Asger was ashamed of his father’s actions, but nothing could justify what happened today.
Realizing that he couldn’t fight his case with so much anger, he tried to calm himself before finding his tongue, but his captors had other plans.
“Take him to my quarters. It’s time this one answered for his misdeeds!”
Asger swiveled his head to be greeted by a fist. He crashed to the floor and stared to the heavens. The sky was black and only growing darker. Asger closed his eyes and drifted off.
When he awoke, he was greeted by the naked flesh of the man that had made him a prisoner. Torvald stood there proudly, his flaccid cock dangling between his legs, as he glanced at the bruised body of the former prince.
The two stared at each other for a moment. They shared many happy memories, but none of
