destroying the drawing and covering everything in a six-foot radius, but Calder did not release him immediately. He held him long enough to inflict mortal damage before dropping his lifeless corpse to the floor.
It all happened so fast that Harry didn’t even have time to see the drawing.
“Richie!” Harry screamed, turning on Calder in a fury. His skin nearly exploded as his bear emerged. Harry roared, his white fur stained with his brother’s blood, and charged Calder, all teeth and claws and raw power.
Calder transformed in an instant. His instincts were honed by life as an apex predator who thrilled in the hunt and who could take down even the mighty mammoth. A polar bear was no match for him. He leapt over Harry’s attack easily and tore at his back with his sharp hind claws.
Harry spun around and roared, then charged again, sending chairs and tables flying in his wake.
Calder would have to make this a quick kill. One bear he could handle easily, but if the others returned, things would get much more complicated. He again leapt to dodge Harry’s charge, but this time jumped on the giant bear’s back, sinking his enormous incisors into Harry’s spine and severing his spinal cord.
The bear collapsed in a pool of his brother’s blood and Harry regained his human form. Unable to crawl out from beneath the giant bearskin that enveloped him, he could only close his eyes and wait for the predator to make the kill.

Liam was doubled over in pain. What the fuck had Oliver injected him with? Not silver. He wasn’t reacting like he’d been poisoned. Something else.
“What the fuck, Oliver?” I said. I was still trying to get my clothes on while at the same time keeping my distance from him. Clearly he’d lost his fucking mind.
“Calder is so much more brilliant than we think,” Ollie said. “His blood is not only going to save all shifter species, it’s going to save the world!”
“What the hell are you talking about? What did you do to Liam?”
“Him? My. Fucking. Alpha?!” Oliver punctuated each word with a kick to Liam’s ribs.
“Stop it, you piece of shit!” Screaming made my throat raw.
“I gave him a gift, is all. A gift of real alpha blood. Not that garbage that flows through his veins right now. It’ll be a gift for you too, Allie. You’re about to get some up close and personal time with Liam. More than you’ve already had today, that is.”
On the ground, Liam started to growl. “You…motherfucker. Ollie. I’ll kill…you.”
“What’s that, fearless leader? You won’t kill anything. Well, me, anyway. I can’t say the same for Allie though. See, I injected you with a new strain of TPV. Calder created it. Having had time to examine it, I can tell you that it’s beautiful. It’s made me strong. Look at what I did just a few minutes ago. Pheromones, can you believe it? I’m the alpha now, but the virus is going to awaken your full potential, Liam. You’re going to lose the battle of man versus beast. And then Allie is going to lose the battle of woman versus beast. You’re going to tear her apart with your teeth and claws, Liam.” He turned to leave.
“Ollie, you’re a fucking asshole. If Liam doesn’t kill you, I will.”
“Speaking of,” Ollie said. He took a thin black case out of his wallet. “The needle had some company in here.” He pulled out a piece of metal and tossed it toward me. It skittered across the floor. It was one of the silver scalpels. “I already used all of the silver nitrate in the lab injecting myself to buy Calder some time. You’ll have to make due with that. There’s still a few seconds to jam it into Liam’s heart before he shifts and kills you. Best of luck.” He left, and I heard the sound of something heavy being placed against the door.
I crawled over toward Liam. He was fighting the shift.
“Allie,” he said. “I can’t stop it. You’ve…got to get away. I don’t know what I’ll do.”
“I’m not
