my boyfriend…” She laughed. “You handled it way better than I would have.”
“Well I was surprised to see you. Brett never mentioned you at all.” My stomach twisted. And why was that?
Anna’s eyes saddened. “I figured as much. After high school, I moved. I needed…”
“To get away from him?” I finished for her.
She nodded. “I’m sorry, Evvie. I really like you. At first I thought I had a chance when you weren’t in New York with him but then when I met you and saw the way he looks at you, I knew you had his heart.”
My skin heated. “When was the last time you saw him?”
Anna cleared her throat. “Evvie, maybe—”
    “Tell me.”
“Two weeks before he came to New York. But I had no idea he was going to show up at Mathis’ club,” she said quickly.
“You were here?” I asked, trying to ease the racing beating of my heart.
She nodded and chewed her bottom lip. “We met up for coffee.”
I gaped at her. Why didn’t he tell me? If they were so close, why would he keep his friendship with her a secret from me?
“I’m sorry, Evvie. I didn’t know about you…” Her mouth clamped shut.
My eyes widened. “He didn’t tell you about me? At all?”
She shook her head. “Not until he came to New York but please don’t think—”
“Anna, thank you.” I walked past her and stormed out of the bathroom.
“Evvie, please. I didn’t mean to cause problems,” she said, rushing up behind me.
I stopped and placed a hand on her arm. “I don’t blame you for falling in love with him. I get it. He makes it very hard to control your feelings. But I do blame him for not mentioning me to you when we were together while you had your coffee date.”
She chewed her bottom lip. “I…I’ll pack my things and be out by the end of tomorrow.”
I shook my head. “No. Stay for as long as you need.” I was going to make Brett fucking stew over this shit he’s pulling.
I turned and headed in the direction of the open space of the dance floor. The back of my neck tingled and I knew Brett was watching me but I wasn’t ready to face him. Yet. I was going to make him beg for my forgiveness.
Walking up to DJ Nitro, I requested a song and headed back to the crowd that was moving to the deep bass of the music.
I caught Anna’s eye and motioned for her to join me on the dance floor.
She hesitated a moment before dancing along beside me. “Brett’s watching you,” she yelled over the music.
I smiled. “Good. Let’s give him a fucking show.” I grabbed her hand and we spun around each other, while moving our hips to the beat. Even though I was pissed at Brett, I actually was having fun. Anna and I laughed, danced and gave the men around us a taste of what they were missing.
I knew Brett was watching us. I didn’t even have to look in his direction to know that he couldn’t take his eyes off of the display of dirty dancing before him. The regulars and the staff knew that I was his. I laughed. I bet they were wondering what in the hell his girlfriend was doing grinding on another person, and a woman for that matter.
After a couple of songs, sweat ran down my back, my heart beating hard against my ribs. Adrenaline pumped through my body and my cheeks heated as the men surrounded us, no doubt fucking us in their minds.
The next song ended when Anna’s eyes widened. She let go of my hands and took a step back.
Heavy arms encircled my waist, pulling me against a hard body. The scent of leather and man invaded my nostrils making my heart flutter.
“You have no idea how fucking pissed I am right now, do you?”
I smiled at the deep growl in my ear. I could guess but I didn’t care. “Tell me.”
His teeth grazed up the side of my neck, before nipping my ear lobe. “Do you like having all of these men watching you?” he asked, his fingers digging into my hip.
Call it immature of me but I got enjoyment out of his jealousy. “Did you like watching me, Brett? Did it turn you on
