before his lips lowered over hers in a promise. That he would take care of her, please her more than she knew what to do with, make her happy.
He wouldn’t claim her, but he’d make sure she knew just what it meant to take a bear as a mate. And if Seth ever did come, he’d be happy to kick his kitty ass.
“I love you,” he said as he kicked open the door to his bedroom. “And now I’m going to show you just how much.”
Chapter 5
B onnie didn’t know what she’d expected when she’d shown up at Jesse’s front door, asking for sex. But it wasn’t this.
He loved her?
She screwed up her brows in confusion. “You can’t love me. You barely know me.”
“Bears can have fated mates,” he said gruffly, looking unbearably handsome as he set her gently down on the bed and then started to unbutton the top of his work shirt, making her mouth water.
He was such a big, beautiful specimen of a man. Bear shifters really were something else.
“When we see them, we know they’re ours,” he said. “We feel a deep love for them that can’t really be equated to human love. It’s a possessiveness, a state of belonging. It’s been torturing me since I met you and found you were promised to another man.” His bright-blue eyes were blazing heat. “But I had to wait for fate to work things out. You’re my mate, and I knew you'd come to me.”
He shed his shirt, revealing a beautiful, tanned torso worthy of a male stripper. He unbuttoned his jeans and left them like that, revealing a trail of dark-blond hair that made Bonnie swallow nervously at how much she wanted to see what was lower.
“How did you know?” she asked, scooting back as he came onto the bed.
“I just did,” he said. “I can’t explain it.” He backed her up until she was on her back, nearly at the headboard, and he was over her, one hand on either side of her head, hot and virile and ready to go.
She found the thought of being dominated by all that male strength unbelievably hot.
“But what if we can’t breed?” she asked. “What if the species thing…”
He shook his head. “I don’t know. It doesn’t matter, though. Breeding or not, you’re it for me. If not you, I wouldn’t be with anyone, so no point in thinking about it.”
She didn’t even know what to make of that. She couldn’t make him any promises other than she wouldn’t go running back to Seth on her own.
She’d had it with him.
“You’re so overwhelming,” she said, leaning in to bite the skin of his neck as he let out a groan. She dug her nails into his back. “You keep coming at me, saying I’m yours. Confusing me with this mates thing.”
His muscles felt incredible, soft and hard at the same time and so big. He pressed down against her, melding his hard chest with her soft breasts and she let out a sigh at the satisfactory feel of his weight.
“I know,” he said. “I don’t know how to do anything halfway.”
“I’m not making any promises,” she said.
“I’m not claiming you,” he said. “Yet. When you realize you’re mine, you have to do it on your own. Not feel like I’m pressuring you.” He licked the shell of her inner ear, making her shudder. “But I’m going to give you what you asked for. I’m going to show you what you’ve been missing.”
“Okay,” she said, feeling an ache inside her she’d never felt before with Seth. She literally felt there was a space inside her that Jesse needed to fill. That would ache forever until he was there, joined with her.
She writhed against him, pressing her hips to his, but he put a hand down, slowing her.
“We have to wait,” he said. “You’re probably tight down there, and I’m… not easy to accommodate.”
She flushed and nodded, and then jealousy flooded though her. “Have you been with someone?”
He nodded, eyes wary. “I have. I didn’t know I had a mate.”
She shook her head. “It doesn’t matter. We aren’t together. It shouldn’t
