birthday?â
âYou told me,â said Nemo.
âReally, Pluto?â asked Dory, âI donât remember that.â
âNow the surprise is ruined,â said Nemo, sadly.
âWhat?â said Dory. âSomeone ruined your surprise? Just tell me who did it. Iâll fix things.â
âYou mean youâve forgotten already?â asked Nemo.
âForgotten what?â Dory replied.
âNothing,â said Nemo, cracking a smile. It sure was helpful that Doryâs memory wasnât very good.
âSee you later,â said Dory, swimming away. âWho was that birthday fish anyway?â she muttered to herself. âI think it was someone really nice, someone I really liked. . . .â
âAnother close call,â said Nemo to his friends. âBut I think weâre all set. Why donât we go home and get ready? Iâll meet you guys back here with Dory.â
âNemo, I donât know if I can come to the party,â said Sheldon. âMy dad wants me to watch the babies.â
âBring them along,â said Nemo. âThe more, the merrier.â
A few hours later, the guests arrived. They all hid and waited to surprise Dory. When Dory and Nemo swam in, everyone popped out of their hiding places and shouted, âSurprise!â
âLook, Pluto, itâs a party for you!â Dory cried.
âNo, Dory, itâs for you,â Nemo said. âItâs your birthday.â
âIt is?â asked Dory. âOh, yeah. Cool, a party for me!â
The guests cheered. Dory smiled and blushed.
Nemo led everyone in singing âHappy Birthday.â Dory joined in and sang the loudest.
âYouâre the best friends a fish could have,â said Dory. Later, she swam over to Marlin and Nemo. âI sure am glad your dad and I found you, Nemo. This is the best birthday Iâve ever had.â
âHey, Dory,â said Nemo. âYou remembered my name.â
âWhatâs that, Flipper?â asked Dory.
âOh, nothing,â Nemo said with a sigh. âLetâs get some food.â
âSalty seawater punch!â exclaimed Dory. âMy favorite.â
âAllow me to pour you some,â said Bruce, the great white shark, as he flashed Dory a giant toothy grin.
âWhy, thank you, sir,â replied Dory.
âHappy birthday, Dory,â said Chum. âYou sure have a lot of foodâI mean friendsâhere today.â
âFish are friends, not food,â Anchor reminded the other two sharks.
âThatâs right, guys,â said Dory. âDonât forget it. Hey, how about we all get some birthday cake?â They swam away.
The minute the sharks left, the other sea creatures swam over to get some punch.
Right about then, Nemo and his friends played their first song, which got everyone dancing. Even Marlin swayed a little to the melody. Later, Crush and his son Squirt whirled around to the music until they were so dizzy they had to take a break.
Crush saw Marlin and swam over to say hello. âHey, good to see you. That son of yours is awesome, dude. This is a super partyâand Iâve been to quite a few.â
Dory couldnât remember any dance moves, so she just made them up as she went along. The sharks even shook a fin or two. Then Mr. Ray led everyone in a line dance. Nemo and the band took a break to join in.
Everyone had a lot of fun, but after a few hours it was time to go home. Nemo thanked Pearl, Tad, and Sheldon as they were leaving. âI couldnât have done it without you guys,â he said.
âBoy,â said Dory, âthat birthday fish is lucky to have so many good friends.â
âThat lucky fish is you, Dory,â Nemo reminded her.
âOh, right, Mimo,â Dory replied. âMy memory just isnât very good. I think itâs getting worse as I get olderâor is it getting better? I canât remember. Anyway, let me
